Can somebody PLEASE do an EXHAUSTIVE Ansio comparison?

This is really becoming a pet peeve of mine.

Is there any site out there capabale of

1) Testing ALL GeForceFX aniso modes....INCLUDING "application", not only for quality, but for performance?

2) Properly identify which modes are being used on each card, when doing comparisons?

3) Incliude commentary on image quality when doing comparisons?

At best, I've seens sites accomplish 1 or 2 of the above...never all three... :devilish:

Yeah...I know....I'm just sitting here reading all these new reviews and it just honestly and truly blows my mind that NO ONE can seem to get it right. More or less venting a little. :)

You got too much time on ya hands!! I think you have become a B3D Crack addict  Maybe it is time to get some counselling Joe...

(Just kidding mate)

I'd change number one to include all current vid cards, other then that I'm with you 100% :)

Have become? Hell, he's been one forever. LOL :D

As for the counseling, I'll doubt it would help since he would actually have to quit reading and posting for a minute to go. LOL Just kidding man! ;)

I've only had a GeForce FX 5600 Ultra for a day, but I managed to put this comparison together. The performance part will be next.

Yea, it's from Quake 3, so sue me :) Haven't been able to test D3D yet, but the 3DMark03 image quality tests didn't respond to any of the settings.

Details on what I was attempting to accomplish can be found in the preview at the bottom of this page:

I was about to point Joe to your comparison, Mike. :) It's small, but effective--we can see Balanced approached Application quality, but not in all areas. I'd be very interested in flight sim and racing sim pics, tho, especially after 3DVelocity's eye-opening set of screens.

The 'Aggressive No Anisotropic' pictures seems to use compressed lightmaps, while none of the other shots do that...

I really don't know what they are, but the effects are clearly visible. But when 2X anisotropic filtering is applied, they disappear.

What you say... That's pretty odd. 3DMark03 just calls for the basic stuff (within DX), and so far I haven't seen any problems with any card. Odd.. Driver problem? Have you tried with any other drivers than the "special" ones?

do you mean like in the "short bus" kind of way?

btw, good stuff MikeC, very nice comparsion and it the formatig fits my screen peferfictly so i can see the whole thing at once. :)

I ran more tests with Morrowind and 3DMark2001. The filtering options don't appear to be working under Direct 3D at all. But the various levels (2X, 4X, and 8X) of anisotropic filtering do. I was asked to test performance using the 42.72 drivers, but I'll followup with NVIDIA.

Oh.. ok! :) So it is a driver issue. I wonder why they send out "special" drivers for reviews that have the filter settings broken.. Strange. Anyway, I hope you get a new set of drivers to test both IQ and performance!

ps. and the comparisong shots were great! ;)

Eh.. I kinda missed the "bus" thing now! ;) I am Finnish you know..
