Call of Duty 2 - Interview (sounds amazing)

http://xboxmovies.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/2472/Call-of-Duty-2-Grant-Collier-Video-Interview/

Wow, does this game sound crazy or what?

Even if the gfx are not GOW, the gameplay sounds pretty cool.

- removed rail gameplay. 4-6 objectives no order, as a result 5x as many cut-scenes/scripted events per level were required, the player sees different events depending on how they do the missions, tons of replayability
- AI was useless when the rail-gameplay was removed, so it was totally redesigned
- realtime smoked used throughout the game, drastically changes the gameplay "magnifies" he says
- new particle system, realtime weather effects, fog rolling in, thunderstorms, shimmering heat effects, blizzards, etc
- huge battles, 10 on 10, 100 on 100 etc, never alone, no single player missions
- removed dependance on health packs, focus is on action
- 60 FPS

He goes on to say they are using all 3 cores, 1 for special effects, 1 for AI, and 1 for the game engine. He says they gave it a 2 month trial, it was a month and a half in and "boom, we get it, we can do this" and the rest was just tweaking.

wow much respect for the guys at IW, sounds like a fun job.

I was surprised they got the game up to 60fps (as seen in the HD gameplay video). The lack of AA was a little strange though.

Haven't got there yet...I'll run this on the big screen at 720p through my XBOX and let you know how it looks!! (probably get about 5fps though...)

I completely forgot about this game. This was like one of the main games I wanted to get my hands on as soon as possible.

For some reason this game has me more excited than Gears of War does. I think the atmosphere in this game is incredible (from the vids I've seen, at least). I skipped all those WWII era games that have been coming out over the last couple years, so I'm not quite as bored with the era as many others seem to be.

I've been wondering about this for a while now. Do you guys remember the two 10-minute-or-so shaky cam vids of this game from around E3? Back then, a lot of people were commenting on what seemed to be some really cool HRDL daylight effects in the videos, and now I'm beginning to wonder if we were just seeing over-exposure on some dude's video camera and interpreting it as in-game effects? I'm saying this also because if you look at the fourth video on this page,http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/743/743289/vids_1.html you'll see what appears to be the same d-day level as the E3 video, but minus the lighting effects. Also, teamxbox has put up some new hi-res screenshots. http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/9291/Call-of-Duty-2-Media/ I'm starting to wonder about some of those ground textures. I'm not trolling, beleive me. I've been as excited about this game as anyone here, in fact I have it reserved and paid off already.

Didn't a dev make a comment to some board about how HDR is not in CoD2, but rather that they have light blooming?

Anyway, this developer is a bigger MS ****** than onetimeposter was. :p
Seriously, I was shocked at how supportive he was of MS and the X360.

lol, ya sounds someone got a NICE cheque, it's only natural to be grateful I guess...

However, his comments on the CPU were very interesting, only 6 weeks to multithread their game engine across all three cores,

Well come on, he said MS approached them about an exclusive for the X360. IMO, if MS/Sony/Nintendo approaches a developer for an exclusive, it means money. If they don't approach the studio, then it's the publishers' or the developers' choice to go exclusive.

Until now the back of Xbox 360 box art has not been revealed. TeamXbox brings you a first look at the new feature bubbles, along with some interesting information about Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox 360.

As seen on the back of this box art it looks like Microsoft is intent on being much more descriptive with the game feature bubbles. Moving forward you'll know how many players are possible via offline, system link, and online. In addition, you'll know how much memory is required to save your game. That will come in very handy for Xbox 360 Core owners using a memory card. This particular box art for Call of Duty 2 is showing 2 - 64 possible players online.

Yep that's the best part of the interview for me. Very very impressive.

i'v read somewhere the xbox360 version of the game will only support up to 16players online. dont know how true that is (while the backcover of the game mentions 64 players.. i dunno)

At least 2x AA is mandatory, did he say they werent going to use it or are you just judging from the screenshots?

IGN and TeamXbox are both reporting that CoD2 sports a swift 60fps on the Xbox 360. Note how the Beta kits really helped the framerate boost (a mere 400MHz seems to have helped).

With the Final Dev Kits boosting development teams' output (see Call of Duty 2's 60 FPS output as an example) Microsoft's annual Gamer Summit, X05, will be the first significant time we'll be able to see and play all of the Xbox 360 launch games.

Having been able to see both the PC version and the Xbox 360 version running side by side I can easily that it appears as though the Xbox 360 version comes out on top with a hefty framerate of 60fps while the PC version is currently running at the standard 30fps. The Xbox 360 version also appeared to have a bit more textural detail, which was more noticeable within the interiors of some of the buildings, which play a major role throughout the game. In every mission we played, there are a lot of situations that will require players to maneuver through buildings to clear them of enemies while also scouting for tactical vantage points and so on. The heightened level of detail also gave the Xbox 360 a nice boost as far as authenticity and realism goes, helping to further the sense of immersion while playing the game. It also seemed as though the Xbox 360 did a little bit better job of showing off some of the game’s special effects, particularly those concerning the use of smoke which also plays a key role in the gameplay. While playing through a mission called “Repairing the Wireâ€￾ which took place in the cold Russian city of Stalingrad, I even overheard one of the members of the media covering the PC version mention they had never seen anything like the smoke effects being shown on the Xbox 360.

IGN noted they have not played PGR3, PDZ, etc yet, but of the games they have played they are putting CoD2 as the best.

To date, Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 2 is the best looking and playing Xbox 360 game I've played so far. And while that's nothing to sniff at, because that's a true next-generation title, I expect others to up the ante. PGR3 looks incredible. Perfect Dark Zero, we've learned, is coming along well, and Kameo - surprisingly - has many game journalists in awe. Even King Kong, which has that whole movie stigma attached, looks and plays surprisingly well.

The animations in CoD2 kind of turned me off and the demo was short (not to mention it was odd not having a health meter!) but it looks like a really great title. If the above are an indication the Xbox 360 version should be at least on par with the PC, if not better.

WWII fans rejoice.

If I remember correctly, it was 16 players for system link. I remember seeing that and and thinking it was odd that there was such a large differernce between the ammount of players for xbox live and system link.
