Buying a MB with Many RAM Slots

Hello!

Every motherboard I've ever bought seems to be limited to a meagre 4 GB of RAM (by having 4 RAM slots and, let's face it, 2GB RAM sticks are way overpriced compared to 1GB RAM sticks). Is my only option if I want more (say, 8GB-16GB) to buy a full-blown workstation, or is this some solution in the middle?

you'd have to go for a server board like tyan and they're not cheap

The 2Gig dimms are not that expensive. I have 8 Gigs installed in my system.
