btw.. DirectX 9 is out

The link no longer works to extract the downloader, but the downloader still works okay :)

If anyone can host a 292KB file give me your e-mail address and I will mail it to you!

The only peculiar thing I see is that the resolution 1600 * 1200 and above just dissappeared in Directx games and 3dMark2001 SE? The maximum resolution I can run in OpenGL is still 2048 * 1536 but in Directx its 1600 * 1024.

When I run NV Refresh Tool 2.0 - higher resolutions are not set by default. When I set them manually and re-boot and review them again the registery hasn't changed - they manual overrides don't stick - wierd?

I am running detonators 40.72 BTW - but I haven't re-installed them since installing DX9 this afternoon.

I saw some reports of performance improvements with dx9 for non-dx9 apps today on a gaming forum, any comments on that?

Although couple of dll-s replaced during installation contained a "x8" or "8x" in their name, I tend to suspect that the reported improvements are in the margin of error or, alternatively, DX9 installation fixed some configuration problems the setup had.

There are also those who have reoprted that UT2003 benchmarks give somewhat slower numbers, but the benchmarks themselves seem to run smoother.

...now we need drivers :)

ATI has beta DX9 drivers along with their demos.
Not that I recommend those - their DX8 drivers are more stable ATM.

I hope they don't repeat the original Radeon fiasco. The DX7 drivers were pretty good, then the DX8 drivers had a lot of problems, some of them still not fixed (... point sprites ...).

........and the new drivers from ATI are out.

Catalyst 3.0 with support for directx 9.0:

-------------------------------------------------

WHQL certified CATALYSTâ„¢ 03.0 only for RADEONâ„¢ 9700 PRO / RADEONâ„¢ 9500 and RADEONâ„¢ 9700 / RADEONâ„¢ 9500 products.

CATALYSTâ„¢ 03.0 for all RADEONâ„¢ products, uncertified.

WHQL drivers... oh, I see, DX9 was being delayed just so ATI could release certified drivers along with it.

Now we just need some DX9 demos or games or something :p

The MS SDK should have some executables in there as well (hopefully - if it been updated), and presumably ATI's SDK will have some in as well.
