Black Books

OMG, I am so in love with this show! Someone turned me on to it after I liked Shawn of the Dead and it's just been cracking me up hard!

I have the first two seasons and I'm about to get the third, I'm just hoping the third is as good as the first two. :)

If you liked 'Shawn' then check out Spaced....
I have the first two seasons of that as well as the first two of "Office" after some friends recomended it too, but I've only watched the first one so far of each...it just hasn't grabbed me as much yet.

When life gets a bit calmer I'll sit down and watch 'em, mebbe tomorrow morning... ;)

I couldn't get into The Office, or at least not as much as my wife could.

The guy was just too grating.

He was supposed to be grating :) I believe they are making a US version of The Office? Or is that what you are refering to? I personally loved The Office, though sometimes it was almost painfully embarassing to watch. Spaced is more surreal, but is a grower... There are elements of both, though, that might be difficult for a foreign audience to understand due to the use of British colloquialisms.

The episode of Black Books where they try to write a childrens book had me in stitches.

Keep an eye out for a new series on C4 (here in the UK) called Green Wing. It's like Scrubs on crack.

OMG, Simon Pegg was the manager of Goliath Books next door!

I finished up the children's book episode about 1:30 in the morning last night and almost woke my family up laughing, TOO FUNNY!!! :D

I think I was Bernard Black for a while in me life. :?

Yeah, the thing with The Office was the situations were so believable it worked for me, because I work in an office in Britain (and used to work in a very 70s building). The stuff he comes out with and the general reactions are just unbeliavable at times.

No, the British version.

I KNOW he's supposed to be grating, but it was just too much. I found the stories around the peripheral characters more engaging, rather than seeing exactly how many ways the lead could be a total idiot.

I saw Fast Eddie on cable in France but i think the show ended after the first season. The girl was rather nice :)

Big Train? I'll give it a go. :)

Any other shows like Black Books I should look for?
i'd forgotten about that... it's mental ( in a good way )

[ ] ( in-joke , err assuming i've remembered the correct series ;) )

Not quite the same kind of thing as Big Train, but "Little Britain" is another sketch show which is pretty good at times.

Hit and miss, as with all sketch shows.

I think you need to catholic or very close to some to understand all jokes in Father Ted. It was my wife's favorite show for awhile.
