Ive been back for a few days, just catching up with some threads, and other sites. South Africa was amazing. Being with the wife after not seeing her for almost a year was priceless. Time just ran out too quickly. I also happened to pickup almost 5lbs extra weigh. Going on a diet for the new years, going to try to drop 30lbs.

Anyways, I must the US while I was there. Meet another american there who felt the same way. We both felt like a caged animal there. Its quite amazing how much people have sacrificed for safety. Seems sad. Ontop of that its like bashing the US is the in thing there. News is quite biased.

Ill add more later,

I was born in Cape Town and but lived in Johannesburg until I was 15 until I left for New Zealand in 2001.

I remember when I was much younger being able to play freely in the streets and stay out at night, but that all changed rather radically during my last ~6 years. We went from a 4 ft chicken wire fence to a 6ft spiked wall and 'burglar bars' on all the windows and doors. Nothing like it is here now, thankfully :).

The SABC is under the thumb of the Government, so M-Net/DSTV was a god send.

Were you staying with local people or by yourself?
