Avatar Kinect

I get like 4 ESPN channels if I plug in the cable coming from the wall directly to my TV, and I'm not even a cable customer!

I get several ESPN channels on cable, but none are ESPN3 in Guam. The cool thing is that I can now stream games Live or replayed that I might have missed because it wasn't carried locally.

Now if I can only get Netflix, I will be set.

OT: Avatar Kinect holds very little interest to me. I would rather MS focus on adding more making Kinect features while making it more efficient.

Is there any VPN on NIPR [all of my former time was spent on SIPR]?

I used my companies vpn when we went on vacation to the Dominican Rep. to be able to get Netflix while we were there.

I've tried using Hotpot Shield at my home desktop. It worked initially, but doesn't anymore.
I haven't tried anything else though.

I don't have a SIPR account at work assuming we are thinking of the same thing.

Don't get your hopes up just yet. Your 360 is probably still blocked. You're much closer though to having full functionality.

Nope, I'm streaming a Notre Dame vs Marquette basketball game right now through the X360. It actually looks as good if not better than my cable broadcast at times:smile:

Weird that the quality of the vid is even better than when I stream from my PC. Initial buffering was between 5-10 seconds and with about 15 minutes into the game, I haven't noticed any additional buffering, other than a less than a second pause after a commercial, although I have noticed the quality of the vid increasing or decreasing on the fly. The commercials in particular, are of lower quality.

Edit: At times the stream is a dithered mess that is almost unwatchable. I wonder if me being surfing on my desktop is affecting the quality. As I said, it goes from really good to almost complete crap (I'm on a 7 Mbits connection)

I simply provided you with a real world example of my own recent experience of controller vs controllerless. You misinterpreting that as fancrap is all your doing. Where to start... matter of seconds? Oh why bother.

In case anybody that's interested in Avatar Kinect missed it, here's a recent ces video in the ces section of your dashboard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uvE2Y2JgLw
Your "real world example" is anecdotal as I have to make assumptions about my experience and myself to align it to yours and imagine an identical case where the pizza guy comes at my door, I am not familiar with my PS3 controller, until I pay for the pizza and get a slice, the screen saver starts (really how long have you set it up and how hard is it to press a button again) etc etc. Why bother indeed? :???:

edit: Also I continue to fail why I should take your "real world example" when it includes the PS3. Lets say I didnt own a PS3. Why should I care about that experience? I d be commenting on my experience on the 360 solely and what I find the most effective way to control IT. Which is what I am doing anyways

Because you're making the wrong assumptions. Did you not get these were social events with guests over? Do you realize how long it takes to switch activities when being social? Did you not get the fluid nature of a social event and how it was quicker and more fluid to use voice? We watch movies using Zune on the 360 because that's the only way to get 1080p/5.1. On the other system, it's bluray. It would also be Netflix if we could ever find anything to even test at that rez/quality as the press releasesstated last year. The common thread was HD viewing in a social environment, and the speed/efficiency of voice control in that environment.

But you saw the other system mentioned, even though it was merely an example of HD viewing/control, and stopped there. Fair enough, ignore the other system and replace every reference with the 360 using the controller. Exact same scenario, exact same powering up, selecting options, screensaver, but now with the offending system removed. Exact same result where it's quicker to give the voice commands.

No. My initial post referred to the two controlling methods on the 360 in general and you started talking about two different platforms, disc movie formats, screen saver etc and isolated the experience to a very very specific example of yours, and not all of the "problems" you mention are related to controller vs controller-free methods.

Can you be relative to my initial post? If others were talking about these in this thread you should direct yoru posts to them, not me.

And no in social events voice commands ARENT always efficient. Here is a real and very common social event. Try using voice commands and gestures to control a movie or anything on your 360 when you ve got 5 friends sitting on a couch in your entertainment room and they are all having fun, they are moving, talking etc.....all at the same time. You want to ensure 100% efficiency with your console? Tell them to shut up and stand still every time you want to do something. Hello: I just became a party pooper. It takes more time than pressing a few buttons on controller and is a lot worse than dealing with a screen saver (which I havent encountered). Really I have watched movies with friends a shitload of times on my console and I had no issues unlike the very few times I used Kinect. And lets say that you are all watching a movie and want to be quiet when you want to adjust something on the playback. You want to do it silently.

Kinect so far has been a blast only in a social event where it involved playing Kinect games with friends.

Anyways I will the discussion at that since its getting no where

Yea, being able to talk and interact with your friends at the same time as controlling the movie playback is a nice feature :)

What I meant is that when you are all watching a movie you dont want to interrupt by talking to the console

Or one is not better than the other, and neither prevents you from using the other, and they both have uses for different people in different situations.
