ASUS A8N32-SLI mboard (4 yo) GPU compatability question.

Mboard doesn't support DDR2, much less DDR3 RAM. Does that also mean i can't use any of the recent DDR3 GPU's that are out?

It's getting time to swap out my X1900XTX for a fresher card...at least DX10 compatable.

The VRAM used for the GPU doesn't have anything to do with mobo RAM type support. However your mobo has 2x16 lane PCIe v1.0 (or v1.0a). So some type of new PCIe v2.0 GPUs might not work however IIRC ATI cards have full backwards support to PCIe v1.0. Atleast for 3-4xxx series.

I have the 'Premium' version of this particular board and I can confirm that it works with Nvidia 8800GTS and 9800GTX at least. It should be fine with most any card, I reckon. Too bad socket 939 was phased out soon after release, mine never got faster than an Athlon X2 4600+, but it's still really usable for all sorts of stuff.

no big worries about that, I believe all card vendors made sure it works. Usually for those slot concerns vendors are very conservative, so you can reasonably expect to add a SATA board, USB board etc. to your 486DX and have it work.
Only AGP was nasty (with a voltage change), plus PCI-X weirdness (PCI 64bit), plus some PCI cards in very old mobos afterall.
