mercury could have been a killer game if it wasn't for the insane loading times from the umd. as it is now it's only playable from a stick.[/quote
<blinks> Insane... loading...? What, did it start getting 5x as long in later levels or something? I played most of the first and second boards, and it didn't really do anything more than did Super Monkey Ball. (A quick score and status screen, and then a quick board load.)
It is, meanwhile, a GREAT puzzle game. But yes, I want to see it with the damn tilt sensor. :?
At any rate, other ones that are pretty good (but really depend on how much you like their style of game) are Ape Escape and Metal Gear Acid. And Twisted Metal if you have the other people to play it with. That's certainly no "racing game!"
(I don't believe it does game sharing, but I do believe it does wifi online play.)
Untold Legends is also decent if you like that type of game. IMHO it fits the portable environment a bit better (as an easy "pick up and play" action-based dungeon-delvy thing)
That's basically my extent of experience through my friend's unit. (And some word of mout.)
It's the upcoming Armored Core that's threatening to break me down, though... Not only do I love AC and find the original concept interesting (designing AI's and watching them do combat themselves), but they're thankfully adding the
regular multiplayer direct controls as well! (Which will no doubt be a bit wonky control-wise, but what canya do?) Less of the single-player stuff, but I shan't miss it if it means everything's unlocked to begin with!
Now I'm just going to pray they can kick it up to 4-player, full wifi multiplayer (instead of just local), and bump the connectivity features to the PS2 so that I can sit around in a dream state for a while.
