Amazing new GOW vid

I like the haunted house direction that is 100x better than that of Doom 3 with impressive HDR lighting but the rain effect looks like white noise without any splash or whatsoever...

Actually if you look really closely you can see that the water is making an impact on the ground. It is hard to tell on such a small screen/resolution--especially a shaky cam of a large screen--but about 2/3rds (~2:09) in you can see it pretty clearly if you watch the ground. Ditto at about 39 seconds for a moment. You can even see the water running down the trees. You can see it at 50, 58, 1:02, etc... where it is splashing raindrops on the ground. Unless that is encoding fuzz, which I doubt. I would thikn they would have something as simple as rain drop splash before having 1.) water draining off the roof top (which is really clear because it is dribbling more than anything else, not fast long streaks) and 2) water running down the trees.

one, really, after the wrong negative comments about NBA2K6's framerate based on a small crappy video (which contradicted the dev and first hand observations from the media; and not to mention the direct feed 720p seemed to lack the issues the smaller video had) I think it is best not to be too critical about what you can and cannot see on such film. Shaky cams at low resolutions are not going to tell us a whole lot outside of some game pacing, mechanics and gameplay, and general feel of the art and engine.

Nit-picking about details a video may not even show seems to be straining.

I am for being objectively critical (been so on a lot of Xbox 360 titles) but the splash comment seems to be wrong and overzealous in finding issues on such a limited media format.

Before looking at the ground, my eyes are nearer to the man standing in front of me who is the main character in the game, dry in the rain. I can see white splash circles on the ground, but does the rain make splash on him? But 'white noise' looking is what I noticed first.

I watched 720p video and it's still at 30fps at the gameplay scene. What's wrong with my comment? (Just compare the scene with scores overlayed with 0:06-0:12 slow motion)

Ok, but your original complaint was, "rain effect looks like white noise without any splash or whatsoever". You never mentioned the character in your comment. So having seen water splash in the video your comment stuck out as an error. Thanks for clarifying.

Like I said before, being critical of games--like their framerate--based on low quality media is not really the right "evidence" to contradict the developer and media sources IMO. Your vague comment about the rain drops not splashing was similar (unitl your clarification).

I just do not understand the controversially critical comments based on compressed/shurk media that is frequently coming from video cameras and not even a direct feed. That would be the point of my comment.

There is nothing "wrong" with your comments--feel free to make them. I just disagree on the basis by which you are making them so I am replying to them. In both above cases I believe you were wrong based on what you wrote due to Media reports and the limited evidence that compressed media can give us.

That is all.

Forbidden Message.

Let me guess though... 720p (or like) picture with really low quality models on the bench?

If so, hey, I am not saying the games are perfect  I have dished out my own fair measure of complaints and criticisms. I am not saying they are invalid--just that we should make sure we know what we are seeing. I know I have picked on PGR3's shadows and some of the light glares, non-AAed reflections, jagged shadows, and so forth--and I consider that the best looking game (we have seen actual gameplay from) coming down the pipe.

I am all for pointing out issues with graphics. I just have a hard time swallowing certain complaints based on compressed/shrunk streaming media from shakey cams. Especially in cases of framerate (if the media/dev have told us its framerate) or if I can see something someone is saying is missing.

Oh well, far easier just to rate the FINAL games.

That's fine, then how do you think about the guy who looks dry in the rain? (As you replied to my comment before it was edited, please re-read it) The details might be lost by crappy cam, so I'd like to presume, what if it lacks splashing on the guy?

It's a rendering error. Just copy the URL into the location bar in your browser, or browse it from http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_1717_1_en.html

Then I would wonder why you didn't nit-pick the MGS4 trailer because there're about 50 'little' things you could complain about in that trailer, but I never saw you make a single comment on any of them. From 2d windows, to terrible textures on the tank, horrible textures on the walls, the list goes on...why weren't you as vocal in your displeasure with the PS3 game?

Quit trying to pick it apart, you complained cause the rain didn't hit the ground, then when shown it does, you complain cause it doesn't hit the main character, and that he looks dry. Give it a rest!

It's pretty obvious to me you have a huge double standard when it comes to appreciating X360 games vs. PS3.

btw: gamespot's hand-ons notes the characters look noticeably 'wet' in the rain..so what's next? His pupils are not the right size?

Well well... so you make complaints agains MGS4 while making no complaints against GOW.

The situation gets actually worse if you mention splashs on the ground - it contrasts with the guy as you see splashs on the ground while nothing on the guy...

One, just stop trolling. jeez... i mean that's what it comes down to. If your console of choice makes you want to complain about small things in a different game, on anothe rconsole, then you're simply not being objective.

Whats with the Troll Witch Hunt?

If "one" wants to pull apart the game then he should have the right to. Just like anyone has the right to critique a game. Its his opinion of the game (biases or not). Also, I thought it was pointed out that calling someone a troll was even more detrimental to a thread since the thread turns into a yelling match about someones credability. Also, "one" has been very beneficial to the console forum (with new information and general statments and translations). His comments are also valid. His opinions about the GOW are true (watch the vid yourself). I personally am satisified with the game in its current state (it all depends on how you feel).

I personally feel that they hit the scary no light vibe nail right on the head. I also thought the lightning flahses where amazing. I also notice with every release that the animation gets better and better. In its current state, the main characters walk looks real good. It has a jumpy part (where it loops back) but smooth that out and it will be perfect. Other than that, the rain was amazing to me and the water running down the walls was very cool.

OK, please give me your objective opinion, thanks in advance. We are talking about this particluar GoW video, right?

If you guys want me to add everytime I post my own impression/criticism in a forum a disclaimer like "this is a version in development and may differ from the release version" "video compression rate is too low" and blah blah blah everyone can make out without explicitly presented before my own comment, then something is wrong.

Looks nice aside from the fact that there is no damn vsync. It is a shame that some developers try so hard to make a good looking game and then show off all their hard work with nasty ass tearing all over the place.

Trolling?

I am still not having clear vision of the meaning of "trolling." I was told earlier that this term is used when someone does not like what another says. Is this true?

As for new Gears of War video, the effects were very well done especially the trees looked quite astonishingly beautiful but it was also apparent that there was no real-time interaction of rain with objects. Remember MGS2 rain scene? Not as beautiful of course, but good example of real-time rain interaction with objects. Perhaps they are still in development process so effects are as yet unfinished.

I don't see One trolling at all - he voiced his opinion and take on the topic. Don't like it, don't read it. As long as the claim is valid (which it is), I don't see what the problem is. Maybe you should be less defensive?

In fact, I'd rather have his take on the topic than your off-topic whining about if member x or y is trolling or not.

Now I understand.

Thank you for the link.

From above link:
In internet terminology, a troll is a person who posts inflammatory messages on the internet, such as on online discussion forums, to disrupt the discussion or to upset its participants. The word, or its variant, "trolling", is also used to describe such messages or the act of posting them.

Does anyone know what AA level and resolution GOW will be at?
