In all fairness, if you look at Zardon's flash animation in the actual article on DriverHeaven's site, it's not just the 51.75 shots that look worse. The ATI screenshots also show blur instead of the yellow/black striping from the 45.23 screenshot.

Yes in DHs screenies this is the case. But today, after the release of Aquamark 3, I took my own screenshot.

You can clearly see, that the texture quality is equal to the 44.23 Detonator's. I think DH made a mistake here.

DH blew their image way up. I did the same to yours and they both look the same.

So has anyone actually bothered to ask Massive what accounts for the IQ differences between both the Det45 and Det50 and the Det50 and Cat3.7? More importantly, why has Massive not noted and explained the IQ difference themselves when distributing Aquamark 3 to reviewers?

Is it a matter of lower precision (nV vs. ATi, DX8: [-2, 2) vs. [-8, 8), DX9: FP16 vs. FP24)? Or is it a matter of multi- vs. single pass (nV PS1.1/1.3 vs. ATi PS1.4)?

I'm still under the impression that nV is slow at PS1.4 b/c it runs on PS2.0 for them, thus my feeble suspicion that they don't even use PS1.4, but rather PS1.1/1.3.

Sorry, forgot that.
I use an P4 @ 2,7 GHz, 1024 MB Ram, Radeon 9700 Pro (Omega 3.7 Cats). In the control panel I had activated 4x AA and set AF to default.
In Aquamark I used the first measurement (1024x768 max details, forced 4x AF) as I don't own the full version, I had not much choice
