About 3dmark03 score

Hi there!

When i have looked at the scored from highend cards like 9700 Nv35 etc
They seem too score like 5000-6000.
Lets say you get 5500 3dmarks with a 2ghz Athlon and a 9800.
I´ve heard many say that this benchmark is very Gpu limited soo if we play with the thought that about one year from now we have the same system but throw in a Nv40 or R400 and do you think it´s possibly that they score like 10000+ then?
I wonder this because 3dmark2001 was so based on other things than just the gfxcard.

I just want too ask one more thing, in game4 "mother Nature", they use Pixelshader 2.0 for the sky and water, is this the DX9 tech in the scen and what do they do too the sky, water?

Possible. On the release of 3DMark2001, the top scoring product was a GeForce3 (circa 4000 marks) whereas a year later, the GeForce4 was initially scoring about 8000 marks; however, such scores were scaling because the rest of the system was "getting better" too. In the past year, there has been good progress in terms of memory systems (eg. dual channel thingamabobs) as well as graphics technology. Assuming that this continues to happen, then 10k scores with the latest hardware at that time may be possible in 12 months or so.

when the GF4 came out in mid feb is was scoring like 12k with oced AXPs And when the GF3 came out I think it was around 7k, but I know for sure it wasn't 4k, I scored 4.5k with a Classic Athlon 800 (the slot type) and a GF3.

I said circa - in other words, about 4000 marks. The drivers that came with the launch of the GF3 weren't up to much and with a CPU common for that period, around 4000 marks was typical. Using a processor like a T-bird over 1GHz pushed it around 5000 but having been part of the whole MO/FM malarky since 2000, I'm well aware of how many "tweaked" scores get claimed as being standard.

GF4s may have reached 12k with overclocked systems and near-10k scores were being shown in benchmarks but not every system that has a GF4 uses the latest, best spec hardware. Just take a gander through the "Hall of Fame" data; people often judge what a typical result should be on the basis of their own systems or online reviews without considering the rest of the PC being used.
