A big question for experts: is Major Nelson right or not?

Yes, but indeed that thread went a little OT...Moving from "Major news for the X360" onto "PS3 v X360".
What I want to know is, are those comparisons fair enough? They're sure more comprehensive and honest than Sony's Press Conference's one, BTW.

NO!!!

He has only a few things right, misrepresents CELL and the CELL SPEs, and gives pointless Apple-to-Snake Oil comparisons.

Anyhow, this will probably get locked... but NO, it is not accurate.

yeah, like I said, be careful who you listen too, Microsoft have their plants around there. trying to cast doubt, proof in teh pudding. LIke I said, if killzone truly looks like that, it is first generation, so smoke that. X-block had inerior CPU, but the GPU was it's strength, and likewise. Sony can change this and that, they have adequate time and I can wait 7-8 months into new year

Ehm, Killzone 2's trailer was entirely CG. Everyone in the world knows it.

Everyone except for Sony apparently... Was listening to Gamespot Live, and they said that they talked to Sony and more than one Sony rep stated that Killzone was realtime... but then what does it matter? Let's just let this die...

By the way... This is my first post but I've been reading the forum for a while and I really like the number of knowledgeable people here and have learned a lot.

Can you get the Gamespot quotes for the PR "put your money where your mouth is" thread ;)

Some of the "characterizations" are obviously extremely slanted and a matter of opinion, and some of the comparisons not approved of, but the figures are accurate unless someone proves otherwise. Without having all the facts on RSX, there's no real way to know. And it wouldn't be fair to out right dismiss these numbers and accept Sony's, since each is going to use data that puts their system in the best light.

I'll try to get the exact Gamespot quotes, but I'll have some trouble finding where it is in the stream... if I can even access the earlier parts of the stream again... :?

Heres what gamespot wrote.

When the lights at Monday's PlayStation 3 demo came up, the audience picked up their jaws off the floor--and began wagging their tongues. Like a game version of the Kennedy assassination. It quickly split into two camps: those that thought the demo was pre-rendered, making it essentially computer animation, or whether it was rendered in real time, which means it would be close graphically to actual gameplay. The fires of speculation were fueled further by the ambiguous comments of Jan-Bart Van Beek, Game Director of the PS3 Killzone at Guerrilla Games, to the official PlayStation UK site."It's basically a representation of the look and feel of the game we're trying to make," he said. Then a post on the Eurogamer forums laid out a tantalizing conspiracy--that Axis Animation, the same Scottish computer animation company that made a cinematic to the first Killzone, had been working on the E3 demo for months as straight-up CG. So how does Sony respond to the allegations? Far from being evasive, they met them head-on. "Yes, it is real time," a rep told GameSpot.

Bogus or not bogus?: Believe Sony? Bogus. Think Sony's lying? Not Bogus.

I totally quote you...BTW what is clear by now is that X360 is definitely a powerhouse, and PS3 will be too, but I think that indeed X360 will be more friendly and "customizable" for developers, which is nice for their ideas.
I'm of course pointing to multithreading, unified shader architecture and embedded DRAM...The system is overall truly greatly balanced and designed.
