We spent some time talking to Microsoft about Media Centre and X360. We've got good news, and even better news if you are planning to upgrade to VISTA. Currently, X360 will run a Media Centre enviroment and, while this will need you to install some special PC tools on your Media

SWEET!! Now, instead of MS Trojan Horsing Media Center they're Trojan Horsing Vista!! SWEET!! </sarcasm>

Seriously, why not just make the 360 stand alone or connect to any Windows PC? Yes, yes, yes I know, money, but I'm trying to say that as a consumer that's what I want. Ms is making things unecesarrily complicated in order to try and squeeze some more cash out of us. Frankly, this reminds me of the whole "you have to buy the remote to watch DVDs" thing with XBox.

it's decent

this is a 5 year console. anyone with Vista or MCE will be good to go. In 3 years I'm sure pretty much everyone will be running Vista.

True, the majority will be running Vista. Maybe, I'm not liking this as much as the rest, because I still have yet to see an honestly compelling reason to move to Vista. Yeah, I guess it's just me, but I don't like the whole buy this inorder to use that thing you just bought. Just make it work, end of story, no? At least it's a good thing for the average user.

i agree, just make the thing work, a bunch of coders made XBMC work with winXP, win2000..everything, and with the price of multi-format DVD players right now, I honestly can't believe licensing of codecs is THAT big of a problem.

But Vista makes that alot better, rather than pushing MCE which is what it first seemed like, it's more like they are no longer supporting XP. Stupid, but not SO bad.

On the otherhand, video playback is completely netuered on X360 anywans because it'll play nothing except WMV's. Hoo-Ray. I'll wait until I see what Sony offers befor giving MS too hard of a time though.
