Avowed [XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

The game is currently 9/10 for me, arguably one of the best action RPGs ever made. The combat is phenomenal when played from the FPS view!

The game is set too bright by default, which messes up the details. In the menu, lower the gamma and the graphics will show how they actually look, just like in the pictures!
I was seriously disappointed with the art style they chose over reveal trailer but now I think I like it. It’s something else. Definitely it has some distinct look to it and maybe not entirely my cup of tea but I appreciate the effort of creating something unique. Positive surprise that many people actually like the game. Downloading now to try it for myself.

Watching this bring played by streamers, I'm definitely warning up to it and I think I might grab this one. Seems like a good quality RPG with a low barrier of entry for mechanics, with decent graphics taking some advantage of UE5. More action focused RPG-lite with a good storyline, semi-open world, exploration and discovery.

Think I'll play this with controller on the big TV. Hopefully HDR is passable, or maybe could use some enhancement via mods.

Game is very addictive. Do level up your gear. This isn’t the type of game where you save consumables forever for that one moment. Use what they give you, craft and make food and grenades all the time. Use it. Respec when you want to.

Game is way more fun for it
im trying a gun and shield + spellcasting on the alternate build

pew pew in all the ways

After twenty hours of playing, I can say that the game is even better than I expected and the rest will only come after this. From the trailers, it looks like a game based on more closed corridors, but in reality it's more of an open world with nice big open areas that have corridor-like caves. That's a big difference. The other is the fight, which is also much more enjoyable when played than what came out of the videos. The experience of discovery is the best, the game rewards a lot and there are many treasures to find! The characters are great, even the NPCs have detailed believable characters in the side quests, which are very atmospheric. A lot of skills can be developed, almost 100 and each of them has several levels!

Good advice: don't rush through the main mission, play a lot of side missions and research!

The graphics and music are top class.

I played through the opening bit before the kids' bedtime. The combat is really fun and tactile. Weapons and importantly spells have a nice heft to them. Reminds me of how badly Immortals of Aveum missed on that front, and that was supposed to be a action game, not an RPG.

I wish Obsidian (and all MS's of the RPG studios) would adopt / develop their own version of JALI. Talking heads in Cyberpunk benefit from the expressiveness it adds.

Looking forward to playing more.

What a fantastic looking game! I love AV in this game so far, walking around you hear birds humming wind, sea, frogs etc. it really creates atmosphere. I am loving this game so far, more than i expected i would. Combat is especially fun! Parrying and counter attacking is super fun, i hope they implement some this in Outerworlds2 such a good and fluid system. Excellent quality game so far.

It'll likely come to PS5 at some point as long as the numbers justify it. The game has franchise/DLC potential IMO.

If you think about what MS has ported to PS5 it's been mostly critically acclaimed stuff: Indie, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi, Forza Horizon 5, Pentiment and Grounded. Two of which are Obsidian games btw.

I think Avowed got reviewed a little on the low side because it's just more of the same stuff people expected, but it's actually a really good game.

When I was playing it last night I was noticing how I liked it more than Skyrim. It's not open world for the sake of open world.

You know how everyone complains that Starfield should have been 20 good planets instead of 1000 under-developed ones? That's what I think of Skyrim/Avowed. Take the good stuff from Skyrim and ditch all the useless fluff and you have Avowed.

Sure you can't pile 10,000 candle sticks into a room or other crazy things, but you don't have to clear 12 procedurally generated rats nests with 150th level rats either.
