Sony PlayStation 5 Pro

I have a PS5 Pro and I find it noisier than the (original big chungus, with optical drive) 5 that I replaced. There seems to be constant fan noise while gaming. It's not overly loud, but I definitely notice it more.

Agreed. It’s ever so slightly ‘louder’ than my original PS5. But we’re really talking about going from near silent to teeny tiny slightly less silent. I only noticed it when I first got it as the house was quiet and I was busy setting it up. I don’t really hear it whenever I’m playing or when I’m not in a totally silent living room, which is basically never.

Hi does anybody have a PS5 Pro?
I have one and compared to my launch PS5 I can hear the fan spinning. It is not loud but compared to PS5 it is. With PS5 often I did not know it it was on or on standby so I would be surprised to see the white (non standby) light. With PS5 Pro I can hear without telling.

If anybody has a PS5 pro, can you tell how yours is?
I have two and they’re both louder than the original PS5. Not massively but noticeable. Although I’ve found that the coil whine isn’t as bad.

I want a reason to get one of these but at the moment I find it a bit hard to justify.

I´ve already played through forbidden west. Im done with spiderman 2. Cool with RT reflections in GT but I doubt it does a huge difference. "Hey, it you focus on the side of the other car when being busy taking this turn at 150kmh you can notice your own car being reflected."

Callistos RT mode looks so much better than the base performance mode, but the game suffers from too many design flaws anyway, so I doubt I would enjoy another playthru.

Space Marine 2 suffered a bit from blurry image on XSX in performance mode, but buing a pro and that game again to get i slightly sharper image...nah.

I think that leaves Alan Wake 2 for me.

In no way would I consider any iteration of the PS5 "near silent" or "teeny tiny slightly less silent" ... it's noisy as hell, full stop 😂

That fan revs up and down constantly. WOOOooooshhhh woooOOOOOSSSSHHH WOOOoooooossshhh woooOOOSSSSSSHHH. The coil whine is also ridiculous.

You might have a defective PS5. The only times I have seen PS5's be loud is when they read discs. Other than that, you have to be really close to it to hear it above any game sound.

I believe the problem to be that Sony uses four different suppliers for the fan assembly. Delta, Foxconn, Nidec and NMB. The Delta should be the quietest.

A quick search on the internet shows this to be the likely cause for the discrepancy owners are experiencing.

Also cooling 200W+ with a single radial fan is going to produce noise, that's just the way it is.

AW2 pssr is quite bad so for sure not reason for getting pro. Wukong (tough only 30 and 40fps modes), Space Marine 2, FF7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Crew Motorfest, F1 2024, No mas sky psvr2 thats titles with significal improvement over base ps5.

Where did developer say PS5 Pro is max settings at native 4k.

You've also used the wrong chart.

Consoles use DRS and bottom out at 1296p in Quality Mode. You can't use PC's max preset and minimums fps for comparison. This assumes the Pro never drops below 2160p, something impossible since it's 66% more pixels per axis than the regular PS5.

You either have supremely excellent hearing or you really failed the fan lottery with yours. I have to put my ear next to it to hear when it's running, it's a slight woosh. While certainly not bothersome, my 3060 is noticeably 'louder', and it's prob the quietest GPU under load I've owned in the past 5 years.

This is basically me trying to justify a 4090 over a 4070 or 4060 xD
