“Dollar sales of tracked video game software declined 13% in December compared to a year ago, to $1.1 billion, while annual sales dropped 9 percent to $6.6 billion,” said Piscatella. “Declines were experienced across all platforms in December, while Switch was the only platform with gains for the year.”

Even NSW dropped YoY for December, but they were the only platform that was up for the year.

Based on dollars sold and not units sold. A few interesting things to note.

COD took the top spot which isn't surprising. But one thing I found interesting is that it's the only pure shooter in the Top 20.

Next up is that Nintendo still owns the Holidays and this is just enhanced by the fact that the other two consoles are basically in decline now that both Next gen consoles are on the horizon.

“Half of December’s top 20 best-selling games were published by Nintendo,” said Piscatella. “Luigi’s Mansion 3 finished as December’s fifth best-selling title overall, while ending 2019 as the fourth best-selling title of the year on Nintendo Switch.”

GTA V tops RDR 2. RDR 2 still being relatively buggy on PC likely doesn't help. As well the online portion of RDR 2 is still in its infancy compared with GTA V which has a vibrant community of user made and hosted servers. Will have to see what happens once community made and hosted RDR 2 servers start to pop up.

While it didn't show up in the Top 20, MLB The Show 19 becomes the best selling Baseball game in US history. And that's before they are set to launch across multiple platforms.
