Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2025]

Only Machine Games can answer this, but perhaps the Pro is just running into bandwidth limitations. If Playstation were the lead platform, possibly they could have engineered the game to fit the hardware better. But they had a completed game that was optimized for the characteristics of Xbox...

Current Generation Games Analysis Technical Discussion [2024] [XBSX|S, PS5, PC]

I was taking an extended look at this, seeing if there were any noticeable patterns. At around the 2:03 mark (and then twice more for the other versions), after a camera cut, large text appears on screen and, for its duration, the resolution and framerate stabilize to a fixed point below the...

Current Generation Games Analysis Technical Discussion [2024] [XBSX|S, PS5, PC]

I wonder which revision of each base console they're using to do the tests. I didn't see any mention of it and the channel has no external website.

Sony PS6, Microsoft neXt Series - 10th gen console speculation [2020]

When you pay for pressed discs a few million at a time, I'm betting the cost is a fraction of that. DVDs were only US $0.08 per disc at maturity. Same basic process, just with different materials and tolerances.

Digital Foundry Article Technical Discussion [2025]

A drama-free release for Compulsion Games. Kudos to them for the choice of utilizing art and animation to make their game stand out, rather than trying to push the bleeding edge and, perhaps, compromising their game's performance.

    Digital Foundry: Microsoft Xbox One X & S supports Freesync 2 [2017-04-11]

Thank you for your reply. I wonder why it was repeated with such certainty early on that PS4 was outputting from DP and converting to HDMI rather than using native HDMI output. I suppose the HDR support that it shouldn't otherwise have is a sufficient explanation.

    Digital Foundry: Microsoft Xbox One X & S supports Freesync 2 [2017-04-11]

My apologies for the incredibly late necro on this thread, but there's been something that has bugged me for a long time and I never found a conclusive answer for it. Was this actually true? Is there documentation to confirm this? I remember seeing it posted here several times, but no...

DirectStorage GPU Decompression, RTX IO, Smart Access Storage

It's only on the Series S version? So it's not something that requires a ground-up reengineering of the renderer? (or maybe it does and they actually did that because it was a first party game that MS insisted works without compromise on Series S)

DirectStorage GPU Decompression, RTX IO, Smart Access Storage

It's likely they never will, either. Xbox has given up on any custom features for their consoles since all their games going forward need to be portable to Playstation.

Gears Tactics @2020-04-28, @2020-11-10 [PC, XO, XBSX|S, XGP]

The final boss took me a little over two hours. The most important skill for me was the one where you can give other squad members extra movement points. And making sure Reyna had the highest grenade upgrade. And grenades work very well against the Boss. Tactics is my second favorite Gears...

What is your favourite expansion/s or DLC extra content ever made for a game?

Blood and Wine is better than the main game. That's the best one. I enjoyed The Legend of Dead Kel for Kingdoms of Amalur, which also tells an interesting story with well written characters. Hivebusters for Gears 5 was very well designed. Highly optimized Gears-style combat scenarios. Eagle...
