How many people understand general relativity?

Hum... I don't understand your answer. As far as I can tell, if you consider an object rotating around a constant axis, the centrifuge forces will be perpendicular to this axis (and yes, in all the directions whithin this plane). If you put sand on top of that "tourniquet" (don't know the...

How many people understand general relativity?

Looks like you just described a brownian motion and the associated diffusion process. As time goes by, this is still centered on zero but the variance increase with time. What do you mean by "correlated rotations"? Ok, here's my understanding of the flat things: The flat stuff in the...

How many people understand general relativity?

Along the same axis... I was always surprised that everything in the universe seems to rotate around itself. Then I had this fantastic intuition that actually, any object in "empty space" was: - perhaps not moving at all - or rotating around itself (the impulse could come from some...

How many people understand general relativity?

btw, understanding is relative, fair enough, but the question is "How many people on earth really have an intuition of general relativity?" So far, one answer by Chalnoth: 0 Maybe an answer by Frank: 1

How many people understand general relativity?

Also, maybe one can try to understand GR in a 2d world, even a 1d world. For instance, the thing with the universe being cyclic can be understand in a 2d world: we are on a sphere, but on a very very small portion of it. So we think it's a plane. But if you go straight, you end up in the same...

How many people understand general relativity?

I thought Einstein got it using intuition only as he was not such a clever mathematician. Yet maybe that was some sort of mathematics intuition and not something purely out of "common sense". But then one might argue that math are the language of the world, especially for scientist. So...

Do you want to have a go?

How many people understand general relativity?

How many people on earth really have an intuition of general relativity? Or another way of looking at it: how many people read "Relativity: The Special and General Theory" (like me) and did understand the second half (unlike me)?

PS4 to be based on Cell?

Hardware is overrated anyway  I wonder how long will it takes to PS3 developers to master the PS3 as well as they did master the PS2 in the past... Maybe longer than the PS3 lifespan?

    pre-compiled GLSL

Exactly, thanks for the ref. I always thought that openglES was more like a subset of openlGL but apparently, to some extent, it is just better! Anyway, if they can do it for embedded device, they can do it for mainstream CPU... So why the hell don't they do it know!!! Ok, enough ranting...

Math to learn for graphics programming?

If you want to keep the "computer vision" door open (you known that stuff going the other way around), probability/statistic is absolutely crucial.

    pre-compiled GLSL

Even if openGL 3 was released and great and everything, it won't be a solution for me as I stuck with the old API at least for a couple of years... Still, just out of curiosty, I tried to get some information related to your statement but I could not find anything about pre-compiling...

    pre-compiled GLSL

As far as I can tell there's no way to pre-compile GLSL code. I understand the need to make sure the right piece of code is sent to a given GPU+driver but in the other hand this is immensely frustrating not to be able to do basic caching optimization. And in the end, what's wrong about...

"collada" is a good word to google for

    Completely Automatic Mesh Morphing Algorithm

That's a tough one... I'd google for "level set" if I were you. I hope your math are not too dusty :-)
