    The future of consoles

Does anyone see a future in which both Sony and MS become content and game publishers and AMD, Nvidia and Intel make their own consoles, which are basically steam boxes. They would be compact PC'S made for just gaming, with a quality controller. Obviously they wouldn't need any special coding as...

Creating your own engine vs middleware?

Thanks for the answer. I will have to read it a couple of times to digest it all lol

Creating your own engine vs middleware?

While most companies nowadays forgo creating their own game engines to just licence on like UE, Unity etc, there are still some they do create their own such as Techland and Asobo for instance. It had me wondering. Asobo for instance isn't a large company (around 100 employees when they built...

    New Forzatech Engine

Microsoft invest alot into DX12 development, and with then really pushing down on gaming I can only see this increasing. I think MS really want to be seen as a graphics innovation company. I wouldn't be surprised to see MS challenge Epic with a opposition engine to Unreal.

Could Next-Generation consoles use Nvidia, and still keep BC?

The overwhelming majority of new releases are on both PC and Xbox. I can't remember the last one that wasn't.

Could Next-Generation consoles use Nvidia, and still keep BC?

Ok, so could it be as simple as this? Every game on Xbox also is on PC. I am assuming that all those PC games would be already coded to work on Nvidia and Intel etc, so could the PC code just be downloaded onto the next xbox console that had a Nvidia GPU and even an Intel CPU? Like, would that...

    New Forzatech Engine

I thought it would be interesting to speculate on what the new Forzatech engine will incorporate, and just how good it may or may not be. Turn 10 isn't an overly large studio, with around 180 devs currently, and historically less than 100 when the first forza engine was created. Forzatech is...

Do you know what engine they are using?

Could Next-Generation consoles use Nvidia, and still keep BC?

Background. When Sony went with the PS4 Pro over the PS4, they used a butterfly GPU system that allowed them to switch off half the GPU when running a PS4 game while allowing the full 36CU to be used when running a Pro game. However when MS went for the One X, they wernt held to the same...

Current State of Xbox Series Tech Utilisation

I wonder how many of them require the game engines to have them integrated for them to be used? It's my guess that Forza MS will be the first game from MS to really try and capitalise on them. As they all part of DX12 U API you would expect MS to push them by showing what can be done with it. My...

Current State of Xbox Series Tech Utilisation

I was wondering how much of the Xbox Series Tech developers have actually utilised until now. I am referring to Mesh Shaders, VRS, SFS, RT, ML, Velocity Architecture and raw SSD speed. We have a number of games that are using Variable Rate Shading, so that's a tick. Obviously the SSD speed is...

Mesh Shaders vs Game Engine Software solutions.

I have heard it said that Unreal Engine 5 uses a software version of Mesh Shaders that actually is more efficient than the hardware solution that is offered by Xbox Series Mesh Shaders as well as the Primitive Shaders used on PS5. Is this true? If so does that make Mesh Shaders irrelevant and...

    Starfield [XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

So are we expecting this to be Bethesda's take on Mass Effect, or something a little less cartoony?

    Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

Was watching a heap of console repair videos and one of the repairers said that alot of PS5s are coming in with damaged HDMI outputs on them. Apparently the way it is designed makes it a bit easier to damage them if you push in the cable too hard.
