*Rough Translation*
A "technology agreement" was announced between "E-mu Systems" and Microsoft whereby "E-mu Systems" will develope the memory unit for Microsoft's XBox2. According to ES's CEO "Dobe Moran"(translating katagana gets really interesting), "the agreement does not yet mean that memory units will be purchased by Microsoft, but this is an important chance for ES".

ES's target market includes PDAs, mobile phones and PCs, specializing in the production of flash memory storage.

So this means just that E-mu Systems will develop/manufacture xbox second attempt's flash type memcards?

How interesting.

errrrrrr........ now now let's be good... This could be MS's secret weapon...

This article is a bad translation. there's mor einformation at the gaming age forums about this. the companies name is M- systems, not E-mu, and you can find out more about thier technology at their homepage.

I wouldn't suggest going to gaming age right now. They had some sort of ad/popup server that changes your homepage and opens your flipping cdrom drive!

Xbox Next HD out, Flash drive in....

The way I see it, Xbox Next won't have any internal drive, but have user purchased external drive for use with certain games and Xbox Live....

Flash is TOO SMALL to be of any worthwhile use in a next-gen gaming console. If these flashdrives are used in the next box, it'll be in conjunction with a regular harddrive, likely a laptop-style drive. These are becoming popular in a major way now and will get even more so throguhout this year and next. I bet after 2005, regular 3.5" drives will start to get pretty scarce because frankly, people don't NEED half a terabyte of storage capacity in a desktop system. Heck, they don't really need even a QUARTER, like what you get with the biggest drives of right now.

2.5" drives will become faster and cheaper than 3.5" units, they'll run cooler, draw less power and probably be more reliable too. MS won't abandon the harddrive in their next console, that's a given!

(Then again, I was willing to swear on pain of death MS would use Intel and Nvidia chips in their next box too so who knows for sure?!)

Or use Mozilla or Opera and set the preference to stop any non-requested pop-up.

On topic, I like Flash more than Hard disk.

Or use Linux + Konqueror

So we're going from 1MB memory cards, to 8MB memory cards, to 256 -512MB something memory cards?

Dropping the HDD would render some Xbox Live options impossible (content download, music ripping, Xbox Live Dashboard upgrades, savegames,...), so I think they won't do that. :)

Ms could still plan to use a hard drive for stuff like downloads. If your xbox would connect wirelessly to you PC and get/save what it needs to/from there.

Btw way, blocking the popups won't completely help as the website is running a java script. It should only affect windows machines using explorer, but damn it's freaking annoying. Stupid popups, your cd drive flying open, and your homepage changing, just so they can try and sell you a pop-up blocker.

I haven't had any popup annoyance with Mozilla and Opera, simply set the preference ("Block unrequested popup windows" in Mozilla and "Open requested pop-up windows only" in Opera) and you are done.

Firebird or Mozilla are cool, you could even trim Java-Script and disable certain annoying funktions ... without the need of disabling Java-Script altogether.

I use Firebird.. never have popups ever. Though it still won't filter out the other garbage at the GAF. ;)

On topic, isn't the Xbox hdd partitioned per function? What if there was a flash hdd in xbox2 as big as the game cache partition, with space allocated for saves and xbox live stuff? You could still have the other partitions.. but set the size to 0 or something. So games won't crash when you try to use a custom soundtrack, you just won't have anything there to use.

My Xbox hdd isn't anywhere near used. I have saves for a few games and whatever was cached on there by the last game I played.

Don't forget that Firebird 0.8 AKA FireFox 0.8 was recently released. ;)

...but if xbox sa succeds better than xbox1st, there'll be more game saves on it's hd (or flash memory) than just Halo, and maybe some custom soundtracks

You could use the HD for Mods and Downloads, (perhaps even as an optional accessory), and then use the flash sticks to transport saves from one box to the next.
