Why do Japanese gamers like Robot games?

I always wonder why are Robot games so popular in Japan, are there any cultural/historic reasons??

I don't know, but they are not the only one to like robots, I love them too.

I think it's similar to being a super hero, after all they look somewhat humans (humanoides), are very powerfull and have incredible designs

Why play Superman when you can pilot a battle robot ?!

I dunno i like robots i guess. I'm more into fantsy and magic though. Considering we are much closer to the giant robots happening than we are to when magic was happening (if it ever did )
