What's the geek-level of...?

Basic

Regular
Background:
One of the Salsa tunes they play rather often at the places I dance at has some difficult pauses in it. It's good for doing stylish breaks. But it can be a bit hard to get in to the beat afterwards, since it goes completely quiet and the pause isn't an even measure. There was some discussion with the friends about how long those pauses actually were. So what do you do to give an objective answer, guaranteed to not be tainted by any bad sense of rythm? (Which I don't think I have, but anyway...)

Of course I did the obvious thing:
I fired up MATLAB, used it to filter out the beat, and graph the distance between the start of each measure. :D The pause was exactly two beats short of the full 8 beats in the the Salsa rhytm. Case closed. (OK, I only checked the two first pauses in the song it might be different in other places.)

Btw, the song is:
Eddie Santiago - Que locura enamorarme de ti

So do you have any other stories of when you did something the "obvious" way, that might be seen as somewhat geeky by others?
