Vista's native partition manager

I made a mistake of creating a 20gb for Vista64. It reached 19Gb quicky in a few weeks, and this partition has only Windows stuff, no data at all.

So I had this second spare partition which I merged using Vista's native partition manager.

Question: the partition merging was accomplished with the click of a mouse button. Very quick indeed. Are there any disadvantages? I mean, is this a true partition or is it segmented?

Do partitions need to be contiguous to be merged?

Note: I have a 500Gb disk. First partition is for WinXP, the second is Vista64 and the third partition is for data.

i think when you what youve done windows converts your disk to dynamic - wether thats good or not i dont know
