Uncharted 4 discussion [PS4] (read first post) [2016]

No, it's an exploration game interspersed with shooting. Wasn't so uptill UC3, and that is the problem. Most of the chapters don't even have a proper shootout, just a customary appearance of a few goons cos it hasn't happened for a while.
I can live with that description. I just finished it - I loved the ending

Behind the scenes on sound design

2 hours and 45 minutes of cutscenes according to this video

Played CH 18-20....now this is Uncharted :D ! This is what it should have been from CH 10 onwards !
Can't wait for the end now !

im on the chapter with rainy cliffs... im super bored. back to destiny and it was much more fun.

what i felt in U4 was that... ND goes overblown in reusing set pieces and gameplay mechanic.

that sliding mechanic? yeesh! why you keep reusing it again and again in quick succession?

the best set pieces mixed with gameplay was the car-chase. it used the various rope mechanic, the jumping and clinging mechanic, the fist-fight mechanic... all combined with classic uncharted set pieces such as stuff that explode after you jump out, crumbling stuff, etc.

EDIT: the enemy in normal is really dumb and bullet sponge. even weirder is.... a punch is more deadly than gun!

Ended the game, great end ! Good adventure game, very lacking action game, very pretty , very very pretty game ..!

I think Nathan deseved a happier sendoff game though, not such a guilt ridden trip. Oh and worst boss battle in all Uncharted games -_- , no wonder it didn't involve any shooting -_- !

Great experience ....mixed feelings everywhere ! I did not get the last Uncharted I deserved :-/ from ND. My niece , who is a die hard Nathan fan, and is playing separately, is also not finding the motivation to continue.

Hah ! What do I say ! Goodbye Drake, you were my best hero after Snake ! And best action hero ever ! But I will be replaying UC2 for ur memories I guess, that's where u were the unabashed Nathan Drake , not an orphan, thief or guilt ridden confused adult. No one brought u down from the hero stature there. Everyone just had a gala time with hero who never leaves anyone behind    !

I am playing the game on the hardest difficulty, I am still at the first levels and the shooting moments are more dense. intense and enjoyable than the lengthier ones I experienced in previous games. I dont know why you guys complain

I played on normal "moderate" , maybe that's the issue? I doubt though, unless difficulty affects number of enemies too.

It does, also variety of enemies, weapons they carry, A.I., vision cones, how aggressive they are and so on. I played Hard from the get go and it seems like crushing is upping it up a notch as well (more rpg guys in Madagascar, some sniper dudes in Italy).

If that is the real issue, then I am even more pissed cos I could have had that wonderful Uncharted feeling and I didn't ! -_-

Man, ND could have just said that previous IC players please play on hard.
Now, I wouldn't know for myself unless I replay the whole game.

What an amazing ride and I finished it today. Uncharted4 was to me pretty much perfect adventure game. Game mechanics were super polished, battles were fun and the whole package was wrapped inside meaningful story. Actually there was more story and meaning on uncharted4 than on the previous parts combined.

Years ago Halo's normal mode became something of a joke to players who played previous games...this is the 4th Uncharted...I'm sure it's safe to not use "normal" if you played previous games unless you find the word "hard" intimidating.

Matter of fact I was talking to some friends about older games like Ghosts and Goblins/Ghouls and how some complained that "normal" mode was hard and they had deep seated fear of playing in "hard" mode...

That's a videogame thing...if gameplay mechanics are tight then we will want higher difficulty and ignore normal mode or Demon's Souls wouldn't have gotten a cult following.

Why I keeps getting audio and visual bug...

Missing audio fx, missing 3d objects that came back after camera change, texture flickering, etc.

The linearity also an ass sometimes. Game tell me to go to lower floor. Bam! I'm dead. Turns out I need to go thru one specific path with mini cutscene.

Hey a doorway blocked by a wooden beam. O press triangle and nate did nothing. Turns out there is other specific path need to be taken.

This one is quite common in games though :, Hey a locked door. I can't blow it with gun and nades.

Totally agree and I usually start all games on hard since the ps3 days cos games are just too easy these days.

But, this is UC, all previous UC games felt right on normal to me, hard was just a , well hard mode, I saved for replays as it just made fights more of a chore to be honest.

I had no idea UC4 would be different and hard would actually be the balanced mode and normal not ! And frankly, CH 18-20 do have the fights that UC1,2,3 had and on normal ! Hard over there would be like previous hard modes. The game has the feel ,it's just that it shies away from action up until the end. Can a harder difficulty mode add encounters where there are none? Nope.

In fact, I posted my previous post here as my FB update to see ppl's reaction and surprisingly or unsurprisingly most of my friend list agreed that the game just ain't the game we love and lacks action , with some even labeling it as boring with nothing to do.

TLOU was a class above this. It had super tense firefights all over the game and the downtimes actually had you scavenging for useable items. There is nothing to scavenge in UC4, yet we are made to walk for 20-30 mins at a stretch just to listen to dialogues and nothing else. The treasures don't serve any purpose in the gameplay, whereas everything u collected in TLOU was life saving stuff needed during firefights. The downtimes made sense gameplay wise as well made for good breathers between tense ,kindof horror themed fights, it was a survival games where we needed a rest from the tension. In UC4, there is no tension to be relieved ! So why so much downtime??

Also, the optional conversations made sense in TLOU, because the characters were strangers and would rarely open up about thier lives. So, having a conversation with them at a peaceful moment in the game felt rewarding and gratifying. Here the characters are chatting all the time and yet suddenly at some places the game asks us to press triangle to talk to them ! Why ?? They were just chatting like hell and now they need a prompt to speak the next line? It is so meaningless and frankly breaks the immersion that the constant banter creates.

I find UC4 utterly imbalanced and depending solely on visuals and dialogue to keep u going. The UC games I knew and replayed many times had exhilarating action all over the campaign. Here it is confined to only chapter 18-20. Rest is all walk and talk.
I am very disappointed. I know the world loves it, I didn't, and I am sad for that !

I guess it very much depends on how much you like exploring. I agree that this is not the Uncharted we were used to but i kinda like that, especially after the been there done that kind of deal that was Uncharted 3 (basically almost an exact copy of 2). And i still think the combat scenarios, design and gameplay around them are far better than previous Uncharted games and TLOU, you can play the exact same action sequence several times back to back and it will play out differently almost every time, that just wasn't possible in Uncharted 1-3/TLOU.
