Police operation near Ubisoft: Streets blocked, people on the roof
Videos and photos shared on social media Friday afternoon showed streets around the Montreal building blocked by police cars.

Montreal police are carrying out an operation near Ubisoft’s offices on St-Laurent Blvd. and there are dozens of people on the roof.

St-Viateur St. and several cross streets including St-Laurent, Waverly and St-Dominique were blocked off to create a police perimeter. A helicopter flew overhead. Just after 3 p.m., a half-dozen members of a tactical squad, one holding a machine gun, approached the Ubisoft building from the east by way of St-Viateur.

Police are asking people to avoid the area near St-Laurent and St-Viateur.

There are no injuries reported and police said they couldn’t confirm news reports that the tactical squad is responding to a possible hostage-taking.

“I can only confirm that an operation is in progress to validate (the reports),” said Constable Véronique Comtois. She said police were investigating an incident in a commercial building on St-Laurent near St-Viateur.

...

Something I haven't seen called out explicitly though it's been said in a few of the news write-ups, not that it makes any difference, but ...
It should be noted that the building includes, in addition to Ubisoft, other companies.

So it may not be directly associated with Ubisoft.

Supposedly this was the result of a Swatting Incident.

Hostage taking on Saint-Laurent | The SPVM confirms no threat detected

This Friday afternoon, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) deployed a large number of resources to answer a call for a hostage situation in a Saint-Laurent Boulevard office building. The perimeter was quickly secured and the SPVM confirms that no threat has been detected and no injuries are reported.

The evacuees are being directed to a place where investigators will take their statement. A team of CIUSS social workers is also on hand to support them as needed.

An investigation will follow regarding the call behind this important police force deployment.

Hoax triggered major police operation at Mile End Ubisoft offices, police confirm
Specialized tactical officers evacuated building on St-Laurent Blvd. Friday afternoon

The 911 call that sent police and ambulances to the offices of a Montreal gaming company on Friday was a hoax, police sources have confirmed.

Dozens of police officers, some of them heavily armed, arrived outside one of the buildings used by Mile End Ubisoft — at the corner of St-Laurent Boulevard and St-Viateur Street, a neighbourhood in the central Plateau-Mont-Royal borough — around 1:30 p.m. ET. Ambulances were also at the scene.

as it was not just the cop that was fooled but also the staff were fooled too, i wonder with the details of this hoax...

anyway, as i read this thread:
3x Helicopters
2x Airplane (non jet)
1x Airplane (jet)

The general details of nearly all Swatting Incidents is some completely worthless person jumps through several hoops to get nearly untraceable call into the local 911/Emergency system of their intended target, pretends to be at the location, and elevates the threat level up as high as they can (indicates they have hostages and deadly weapons, threatening harm to others or threatens self harm, sometimes with high level of collateral damage) with the trained 911/Emergency operators, where the typical response flow is to involve specially trained units typically referred to as S.W.A.T -- special weapons and tactics.

There's no "fooling the staff", as they're merely victims and do exactly what they're told to do by the SWAT units that arrive on the scene.
