Make up your mind, was ATI selling chipsets directly to Intel a blip or not? :???:

Selling chipsets is one thing.
Adding support for Crossfire though, hinted at a broader agreement -at least on ATI's part of the expectations-.
That was seen as more than a blip.

But then...
It was the Intel opinion that went under the radar, like that NV bundling stated above proved recently (as early as May).
This hinted it was not a blip, but no one noticed it and the buzz for Intel+ATI continued.

Remember there was also talk on Intel buying ATI long before this "storm" broke up a few weeks ago.

I believe this happened because ATI and NV, being smaller and more "agile" than AMD or Intel, become the media darlings, just like Apple.
The problem is, to be a media darling is different from being truly relevant in the real world outside the press and fan-base for either of the former two.

Rahul Sood, president of the gaming computer company VoodooPC, argued in a blog over the weekend that ATI is a "diamond hidden deep in the rough." The proposed deal would be a brilliant stroke for AMD, he argued, representing "a go-big strategy that will shake the very foundation of our industry."

Diamond in the rough? More like a diamond sold at jewelery prices.

For a moment i thought of Diamond Multimedia, and of what happened after S3 got a hold of them for a while...:-|
