RSX vs Xenos pipelines

Wel..
I'm trying to digest the specs out there.
As far as my limited GPU knowledge gets, Xeon has 48 pipes, unified, but each of them being capable of 2 op/clock.
RSX has 8 vertex pipes, and 16 or 24 pixel pipes (8 ROPS both), but capable of 5 op/clk??

So... RSX pipes should be so strong, and geting more performance than those of the Xenos...
I really don't know if I'm getting the point... any help??

Thank!

There is more to it then that and while RSX is capable of doing 5 ops per cycle it's not likely that peak will be hit .

Counting ops, shops, and flops is, ultimately, an exercise in futility.

Consider this point alone: R520 (X1800XT @ 625MHz) will get, theoretically, 120GFlops in the pixel shader and 50GFlops in the vertex shader. Xenos (not Xeon) will theoretically obtain 216GFlops of performance. Reference that with the flops vs performance from an NVidia G7x and you'll see that it really is apples and oranges between the two different IHVs, and unless R600 can give us some insights, the same may very well be true between R520 and Xenos.

Patroclus, a couple of your recent threads have been in this same vein... trying to compare the architectures. But - what ultimately are you trying to figure out? There's more to it than which chip is capable of more ops y'know...

Comparisons threads that are not self imposed -By an article or the claims of a developer doing a comparison- are not allowed, for obvious reasons.
You can start a thread asking specific questions about one architecture in particular, though.
Having said that, you should find the answer to your question by doing a few searches in the forum.
