A shotgun can be quite effective.

few weeks ago my computer was infect by something called newpop.
AVG, Norton, adware, spybot, nothing worked.
I had to use my own hands to remove it.

MS AntiSpyware is simply Giant's product rebranded at this point. It has received excellent reviews, and justly so.
