From the beyond3d Interview...

In terms of Performance :
NV30+NV30-path is faster than R300+ARB2

In terms of Quality :
NV30+ARB2 is better than R300+ARB2

For developers doing forward looking work, there is a different tradeoff -- the NV30 runs fragment programs much slower, but it has a huge maximum instruction count. I have bumped into program limits on the R300 already. As always, better cards are coming soon.

With the release of the R9800.. have the tables now turned?

Cheers

The fact that JC has bumped into program limits on the R300 has nothing to do with Doom 3. It was just JC testing the limits with the card.

Nevertheless, they have heavily optimised for stencil-based rendering. Should be much faster than R300 per-clock in D3 (Hi-Z w/stencils is fixed, for example).

MuFu.

First we need to see the finished software, then we'll see which card Carmack was talking about.

In my opinion tables can't turn between unreleased and announced graphics cards using unreleased software.

Tables will turn dramatically when Bitboys announce a special Mortyr2 high end accellerator :)
