Question regarding GPU generations (nVidia & ATI)

Hello,

-newbie alert-

I was reading an article regarding the rendering paths in Doom3 and they mentionned that there were specific paths per Gpu generation.

For example, R200, R300, NV10, NV20, etc.. I do not remember what those generations represent in relation to the retail products (R200 = ATI 8500 and ATI 9000)

Where could I find a list of:

GPU Generation / Retail Product (i.e.9800XT) / Directx implementation?
