Quake 4, another comparison point?

I think that the reason that the xbox360 struggles with quake4 is not directly related to the graphics subsystem.

I thin it can be a number of reason it runs bad

1.they are running an opengl game on a system that was built around direct3D

2.the Doom3 engine runs better on nvidia

3.no memory optimizations(one thing pc's will always have over consoles, large amounts of ram)

4.maybe the Doom3 engine doesn't like ppc(remember the poor performance on the mac doom3 port)

5.could just be a bad port

I'll take whats behind door number 5 Bob. ;)

C'mon, same as the CoD2 nonsense this is comparing Apples to Elephants. Ports between a closed platform and an open one arent very reliable benchmarks for much of anything Id gather.

If it isn't a bad port, I would guess memory issues considering how quake 4 performs on PCs with video cards that have 512MB versus 128 or 256MB

Sorry but this is a pretty bad comparition point, since there already better looking games on the system.

Bottom line, it's just a bad port, actually i can't remember one good port from Raven ever, soldier of fortune 2? JEsus christ....

It´s kinda complicated comparing the RSX to the 7800GTX 512. Remember that the RSX has just around 41% of the memory bandwidth. So you can´t directly compare the framerate of GTX512 in Q4 to what you´ll get with the RSX.
