Yay! Another reason to laugh about PSP's battery life 8)

Tag, this is not fair... I have already to behave with my fiancee in similar periodically aggressive status... I cannot get sarcastic remarks from both :p

I'm sorry but what does the fact that it can do pixel shading have to do with power consumption?

Is it because the processors would need to be clocked at high hertz to be able to render it?

Nothing. In the macro-view of this SoC, it's rather insignificant in logic AFAIK. DX9 lvl appears to change this, but that's another story.

Well if by pixel shading they actually mean DX8 pixel shaders or even beyond then that should up the transistor count by quite a bit, which in turn ups power consumption.

What's the big deal? PS2 can do pixel shading. Hell, pretty much every piece of graphics hardware for the last 8-9 years could do pixel shading.

Not in the sense we mean today by pixel shading; ie run a program to modify the color value of a pixel before it is written to the framebuffer.

Pixel shading != gouraud shading.

Woah! Hold da Fold! Is someone trying to say PSP will not have the programmable coolness of those DX8/9 PS? So come again?

Though it(PERPIXEL LIGHTING DOT3 SHADARS!) is inconspicously missing from Sony PR spec sheet...possible...that it is true? ah the wonders of Sony tech/pr...so confusing. o_O

It cant be that good chap.... It doesn't seem to say anything about floating point pixel operations anywhere - cant be a proper DX9 equivalent without that ;)

PR sheets generally are, remember the VU units were not promoted a DX9 vertext shaders.

I think alot of the more technically mided ppls here can amke more sense of these specs than most of us.

Not even DX8....DX7...? Something....it really does go a long way in making nifty graphics, and to convince doubts that Sony can do pretty finese graphics(and not just raw cpu power)..

Why would Sony Marketing equate their tech with a competitors? IE: using DirectX lingo.

why would they ad DX complience? 8) why not OpenGL? :p

seriously tho raw cpu/gpu pwr is given a lot of bad press not all cpus are intel derivatives you know (do lots of things reasonable quickly).

Don't see how you'd come to that conclusion. Cyba seems to confuse pixel shading with gouraud shading (which 3D accelerators have done in hardware for ages), but that doesn't say anything about the PSPs abilities.

Personally I think floating point framebuffers to be a complete waste on a handheld, and you know where you can stick your dot3 shadars babe. Cool it, we don't need more of your fanboi antics right now.

Just try and remember this is a handheld, and that the specs rocks already as it is, no matter if the thing has any pixel shaders (and whatever capability these might have) or not. Don't get hung up on little stupid technical details which Joe Consumer don't give a flying fart about anyway, look at the overall picture instead.

Okay okay, how about DX8 equivalent...DX7 equivalent features? :p Sony obviously not going to suxk up to MS duh!

honestly? don't know as I'm not technically minded and it doesn't exist yet.

er...yeah..duh?
