PSP $150 ... but without WLAN?

Sony stated that WLAN ( WiFi 802.11 ) was built in even at the last GDC: it might be something like the Xbox LIVE service or the Xbox DVD functionality ( built-in capabilty you want the user to pay for ), but I do not think Sony would do that: just release it at $199 and be happy.

If you make this functionality an add-on you will limit its reach and over-all usefulness,

I would defenitly be happy with $199, but especially for kids this $50 price difference would be enough to get a big userbase much faster.

I disagree. A very strong launch and high, sustained sales are crucial for any system, and a $150 price point would help much more than a $200 pricepoint in that regard. Sony has a lot to prove with this machine, and every advantageous point they can have, the better.

Besides, I don`t think it makes much of a difference if it´s there or not.

You can't truly lean on the multi-functionality of a feature (wireless) without it being included with the core product, though. Certainly if it's good enough and important enough it won't simply have an "add-on mentality" surrounding it, but if they really want to push the wirelessness it has to be there from the start. Offhand, I don't think they're scared of a higher price point, so I think they're most likely to make sure wireless is integrated to start. (Maybe they'll split other things because of it though...?)

I do not think they have to split other stuff.

I guess we'll have to look to a price point around 250$ or more... Sony clearly stated this device was meant to make money, both hardware and software wise. Guess this device is also not really meant for 'kids'.

It depends what is meant by "other stuff." ;) Offhand, I'm mainly talking about certain things (like input/output cords, headphones...) which would usually get put in that they may attempt to bundle separately to keep prices down, not a large feature that needs to be integrated. There'd probably be a data cable included, but they may split out the A/V peripherals as they're not integral to gaming, and are something small and easy that people are bound to pick up without really complaining about it.

...

Considering that SCEI officially denied the reported 802.11 plan citing a change of plan, I guess 802.11 is indeed out of PSP and will be made available as an add-on...

That is not what they said at the GDC though ;).
