The discussion was about a 100$ price cut on the PS3 itself, the need for it or Sony would face further hardware sales woes and developers turning away from the platform. The last 2 paragraphs mention something along the lines that there is continuing speculation that the BR drive would be dropped to reach that price point.


Sounds like FUD and suicide, but the source isn't exactly GAF.

If you remove Blu-ray drive from PS3, what exactly do you have left? You can't play the games or watch Blu-ray movies... But yeah you could still watch DVDs (if it would have a DVD drive) and play stuff from PSN and PS1 games yippeee!!

This news would have had some merit, if PS3 hadn't launched yet, but now it's just retarded.

Isn't the article date 2/25/09? I don't see it clearly marked and didn't see a thread about it elsewhere. I'm not disagreeing with you at all. Seems totally ridiculous. The simple fact it appeared recent and on gamesindustry.biz was the only reason i posted it.

Starting with posts 309 and 311. It apparently has appeared on multiple sites, but that's just bad journalism imo.
