SAN JOSE, Calif. - Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news). has become the latest of the video game console makers to announce parental controls in it newest machine, according to the Entertainment Software Association.

Now, all three major console makers are promising parents the means to help restrict their children's access to violent video games.

Sony will place the controls on its forthcoming machine, PlayStation 3, according to the ESA.

I think it´s a good thing. Many parents that I´ve talked to love that feature of the 360, which has a very good parental control feature which includes Xboxlive as well as the hardware itself. If Sony have something like that, then it´s all good..

Parental Control is for parents who don't know how to raise their children. ..Don't know if this belongs here but just had to say this.

Disagree.

It's another useful tool that parents can use.

Ah you're one of those... ;)

I don't disagree per se, but parental controls is so much more than that from the console makers perspective. It's a way to shift culpability back into the hands of the parents when it comes time for GTA courtroom brawl 2007.

I just hope it can be disabled so we don't have to input the password every time we start up a game or movie like on the PS2.

I would think so. It guess it will be just like the PSPs where it`s disabled by default.

Damn, I don't remember this making news when Microsoft put this in the Xbox FOUR YEARS AGO!

I guess they got sick of being included in the slew of frivolous lawsuits involving Grand Theft Auto games. It's nothing but a "Wet Floor" cone so that Sony could point the finger back at parents for not implementing it (as they should!!!). Now these rediculous lawsuits don't have any legs. We have the ESRB ratings. We have enforcement at the retail level and we have it built in to the consoles.

Who will Jack Thompson blame next???

P.S. Does anyone know of someone who actually uses the V-Chip in their TVs?
