PS3 supports electronic money Edy with firmware 1.50 (in Japan)

It's hard to know what Sony is up to, but I'm guessing that static thumbnail feature is probably for the PSP <-> PS3 connectivity.

The thumbnail is also the start frame for your video clip. If all clips (mostly trailers) started at the start you would see a couple seconds of green disclaimer, then some black, then only a couple seconds of the actual clip. Thats why they did it. It's also just cool.

They already had a video encoder for the PS3. They needed it for the Remote play functionality on the PSP. So it was just a matter of making use of existing work.

That's not new for 1.5 as far as I can tell. I've been doing that since launch day. Just for clarification to others, you're not selecting a static thumbnail frame, you're selecting which frame, out of any in a given movie clip, to start the 15 second thumbnail from.

Did you download those GTHD videos from the JP store or is that available in the US store?

They used to be on the JP store. I dont know about now.

BTW. Firmware 1.51 is out today.

I heard some people who were using wifi connections had freezing issues during Bluray playback after the 1.5 patch. This is probably the fix for that and nothing else.

I was reading at another forum that 1.51 also fixes the quality issues that some people were still complaining about in BC gaming as well as increasing the list of supported games.

Yes. The Japanese change log says 1.5.1 improves the gaming capability of both the PS2 and PS3 platforms. The US change log only mention PS3 though.
