PS3 gta 4 and gt5 prologue for 299 Euros
Just checked, and the list price at Amazon.fr is €399 for this bundle, so that's a hundred Euros off, which is what I'd expect for an official price drop. Don't know how that'd relate to a UK price, but if they give us a little more, £90 off would do it.

The question is, why now and why in Portugal?

It's happening the same in Spain - http://www.acuista.com/x/423147-play...let_9793358_6/ and http://www.pixmania.com/videojuegos-...259_jvart.html - and I think the rest of the world will follow - where's there's smoke there's fire.

It's not all of Portugal, it's just those chains. fnac lists the same price on its French and Portuguese websites. fnac.es lists them at 379EUR, but I'm guessing that's some specific promotion.

Could also just be to clear inventory. Especially if they are expecting new stock.

IE - if rumors are true that PS3 Slim will be launched on the 18th at current price, then that would make existing stock of PS3 virtually unmoveable if they stayed at the same price.

I'd say this would be more a sign of an impending PS3 Slim announcement than an official price cut.

Regards,
SB

Btw, Vobis and Worten are actually part of the same enterprise group so I wouldn't read those as two different chains offering the same discount ERGO price drop. Having said that, from from what I read elsewhere there's stores in Italy also selling GB PS3's 100 euros off?

PS3 prices have kept going down over the past year.

299 isn't that far below the curve.

Whenever the price drops to 299€ officially, it'll be hard to notice any difference.

Really?

What prices do that curve reflect?

It certainly isn´t the average selling price. Perhaps it´s the lowest price from some pricewatch site inlcuding all types of obscure online shops, temporary offers and excluding shipping cost?

If the recommended retail price drops 100€, it certainly will make a difference in the super market flyers. Maybe you will not notice it, but I am pretty sure many others will.

Yes, it's a price aggregator that includes online shops but it's really not all that dodgy. E.g. they currently filter out play.com's 290€ish offer because it's not in stock and they also filter out pixmania.co.uk's 316€ offer because they are short of the minimum amount of community feedback.

The list includes shops that offer local pickups (starting at 323€) and noteworthy b&m chains (starting at 336€).

The PS3 just isn't all that expensive anymore in mainland Europe.

Looking at the previous tab on that page (Übersicht & Preise) it seems pretty clear that they are including import prices from the UK in that table.

And as the UK pound has been on a slide against the Euro for 12 months or so, that would account for at least some of that reduction in price.

Perhaps if you go shopping around on the internet, but in the mindset of shoppers who saw PS3 at €400 in their usual store, thought 'that's expensive', and haven't seen the price drop in their usual store, it's still €400. The fact that one place somewhere may have it for €300 doesn't mean everyone intersted across the whole territory can pick it up for that price, or is even aware it's available at that price. I notice just prodding around that lots of sub €300 prices are from UK stores - they're only reflecting regional pricing and the weakening of the pound. This will only benefit importers, which are, I believe, a tiny minority of folk. An official price drop would still be as significant as one would expect IMO.

Besides, if the official price drops to 299, then you'll start to see the occasional offer that goes as much below 299 as the current ones go below 399.

Thread title still seems a bit misleading though. But if the official announcement is in a week (the 18th wasn't it?) then this is the kind of thing you expect to see happening more over the coming week.

This. Anyway they ARE clearing stock of the 80GB PS3 as it's being discontinued for a new arrival.

It's not "on the internet", temporary, and neither is it importing when I can drive down to a Promarkt (nation-wide b&m electronics chain) and buy a new PS3 for 336€.

Okay, let's put it another way. What's the average price across stores throughout Europe? Do most stores have PS3 at between €300 and €400 and the average sits between them, so that someone popping into a store to buy a PS3 is going to pay about €350? Or do most stores have it at around €400 and you have to be lucky to find a particular store of chain that has it at €300? For all I know there's a store in Birmingham selling PS3's for £230, but I don't know about it and couldn't advise friends or anyone else that PS3 can be got for only £230. SO even if PS3 can be got for that price, it isn't being bought for that price but for a far higher price on average.

If the most common price is as low as you suggest, then you're right, an official price drop won't make any difference because PS3 is already there and the public knows it because they keep seeing the low price on the shelves. But if the average is near RRP, then a drop in RRP of €100 will result in more sales, no?

I agree. A general consumer isn't a person who is typically going to be aware of the best price of the ps3 but the general price. An official price of 299 is bound to have an affect on consumption of PS3es.

They're discontinuing the 80GB in Europe Shifty - it's gonna be down in price everywhere.

Here in Portugal seems like the price has dropped everywhere.

That graph doesn't surprise me, I've seen some pretty cool deals at Fnac throughout the year, with €399 getting you the console and 2 (good) games.

It'd be brilliant if now that everyone's expecting €299 they'd launch the slim at €249 or *shock* €199. At €199, even in relatively calm places like B3D it would be chaos.
