PS2 Demos are getting somewhere: Auro for laura

Wow, that was an order of magnitude more impressive than any other demo I've seen on the PC before.

Just goes to show I guess, that Scandanavians + Assembly = amazing results. Me thinks SCEE will be knocking on their door soon :)

It is ps2dev, no NDAs breached.

edit:
\/\/\/ Yeah, I misunderstood, then understood. Noted that somebody perhaps wanted to know. ;)

Can anyone help me , i click on the above posted links but i cant c any pics anywhere plus i downloaded something and i dont know there is nothing to watch? Can someone please help me wiht directions to the video or pics i assume u guys are tlkin about. IF not can u at least tell me what is shown.

Hmm.. That's a shit load of polygons.

EE and GS LOVE these type of tech demo's. These guys need to be creating soemthing similar for a PS3 tech demo.

I hope SCEI looks at it..

Oh nvm i can play it in real player. Thats was some pretyy impressive ****. Who made these demos?

..beat me to it :)

Might I just point out that those guys are in fact Danish. :D Hey, I might even know someone who knows them. 8) ;)

phed, not that it matters much, but it's not "Auro for laura", but "Aura for laura", which apart from the obvious, has a double meaning in Danish. It's an expression of surprise mostly of the positive kind, a bit like for example "ring a ding ding" or "hubba hubba" or other lame expressions.

Heh if someone had said that was an early tech demo for PS3, I probably would have believed them ;) Ofcourse, looking at it carefully, it plays on all of the PS2's strengths, but its still damned impressive.

For those of you who've downloaded the clip I've got a challenge for you. Can anybody guess where that engine revving sound at the end of the clip was taken? :D

I know exactly where is was sampled from, but I want to see who else knows 8)

BTW I like the music. It sounds really cool and sinister :devilish:

Wow, this easily stacks up with the best of PC scene demos, and god knows I've seen some truly impressive ones. Their routine that 'tesselates' objects into smaller and smaller cubes is really something. Great style too, something very unusual for console scene demos, which usually ooze crappyness.

Im guessing the revving is from ATV: Off Road Fury - think thats how its said. Sounds just like it to me.

I hated the music. The base had no beat and was a chore to watch cause the music was agitating th ehell out of me...

Ya Marc, it reminded me of the boss in the third realm of Rez (Rock is Sponge), where the blocks turn into a human-shape and run off.

Hehe, after watching it I had to pop Rez in for good times :)

Great great great stuff though.

The music is broken in this divx. Best would be to run in it on the metal. And the music is very artsyfartsy; the style I love :) .. Earn some Autechre / Aphex Twin or any other IDM artist.

The colours are marvellous as well. But I noted the lack of textures; they probably wanted full spike on the polygons. Heh, I wonder what the polycount is.

I have seen such an interferenceobject (that rippled object) one time earlier in a notably cool demo by Orange, MegaBlast. But they used point sprites (no 3d, no polygons, software rendering) instead of a fullblown polygon object. It looked just as awesome, except it looked like some kind of electric fog.

Since the PS2 is so good at 2d-stuff (but getting perspective corrections) it is very good at nonfigurative stuff. Eg the kaleidoscope effect is not something you would get for cheap on a x86-NV arch.

The revving sound is generated using a physical modeling sound tool from Staccato Systems, Inc.

Staccato Systems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Analog Devices, Inc., since January 2001, is a leading provider of audio software tools and technology for multiple and diverse platforms and applications. Staccato Systems grew out of Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA, or "karma"). In 1993, CCRMA launched the Sondius program to develop physical modeling technology, algorithms, and development tools. In 1997, the Sondius team left Stanford and incorporated as Staccato Systems. The company specializes in products and content for PC and console/appliance manufacturers and game and Internet audio developers. Staccato Systems is now designated as the Audio Rendering Technology (ART) Center within Analog Devices and will be located in Santa Clara, California.

The reason why I know is because I use to have a program from Staccato Systems that model the sound of a combustion engine. It had sliders where you can rev the rpms from the engine, add misfires, and kill pistons 8)

If ATV offroad fury sounds exactly the same then the game probably used Staccato Systems sound tools too.

Damn, very stylisch indeed! I like the large metallic balls with spikes, very beautiful. These guys have talent and I find this demo way more impressive than the demo that came with my PS2 "The find My ow Way" demo that also reacts on music. But how did they make the demo? With the Linux kit?

I also like the music of the video, Does someone know the title of the song or the techno band that made it so I can download it from Kazaa?
