Program to set max spindle speed of IDE DVDROM drive?

I have like the world's noisiest Samsung 40/16x CD/DVDROM unit, it's simply horrible to listen to when its going at full speed. It also gets very warm after a while, and not to mention the fact it generally stops the entire computer from responding while spinning up a disc (which takes several seconds)... Terribly annoying.

Thus, the need to limit spindle speed somehow... Please help.

There is a very well known german program called "CD-Bremse" ("CD-Brake") which exactly does what the name indicates. Although it`s a german program it`s very easy to handle. The best: it`s freeware!

Ups - your CD/DVD drive is not listed. But try it nevertheless!
