pgr2 or de:iw?

If you had a choice between Project Gotham Racing 2 and Deus Ex: Invisible War, which one would you choose. I recently got PGR2, and graphically it reminds me of Apex, which I already have, so I'm wondering if I should have bought Deus Ex 2 instead.

If you have Xbox Live! then I would sell or trade Apex and get Deus Ex2 instead. Or Rainbow Six 3 or Crimson Skies or... you get the picture. :)

Sorry, I don't have Live. I was going to get de:iw, but because people on the internet were complaining about the framerate, I changed my mind. I plan to keep Apex.

Don't you get the feeling that the vertex and pixel shader capabilities of the GPU in Xbox aren't really being used in Xbox games? Nvidia has some amazing demos of what can be done.

Crimson Skies all the way baby!

btw, what's that supposed to mean' PGR looks like apex..

quake and halflife also look alike , but they are completely different experecience..

Just because you can do all types of crazy Shader effects in a tech demo doesn't mean you can do the same result in a in game scenario. It's quite different.

Paul,

Are you saying developers can't create good shader effects because they lack the time to create them?

Well out of all those games Deus Ex 2 is the only one I've played, but I can tell you it's very very good! One of the best FPS in a long time. There's a demo if you want to try it.

Oh, and the real snazzy Nvidia demos like Dawn really couldn't be done on X-Box. Keep in mind the X-GPU is comparable to a Geforce 3, which isn't exactly cutting edge anymore.

I've personally played PGR and PGR2 and I would have to agree with all the praise it's gotten. Although, I haven't played Apex, everything I've read shows that Apex doesn't compare with either of them. That's the reason behind my suggestion to get rid of Apex. Especially if you have or plan to get Live in the future. As for Deus Ex2, I would suggest trying the demo out before giving up totally on it. I believe it's on the disk that comes with the Jan. 2003 issue of OXM. I haven't received mine yet. So I'm not totally sure. Either way, I can't understand giving up PGR2 to Apex. If you're still not convinced, then I would look to trading other titles in your library before giving up on PGR2.

I have noticed that too. The only game that really seem to make any noticeable use of DOT3 is Halo, but that’s game runs at 30 f/s and has very limited draw distance in the places where it is used.

I was just thinking what a shame it is that few Xbox games today look as good as Wreckless or Enclave. Both of those games still knock my socks off visually.

No dude. I'm saying it's a system related thing. Sure, in all those nVIDIA tech demos they are showing all types of nice shader effects that the card can do.

However, there is no game going on, the GPU only has to worry about doing that one tech demo and it's probably just a single character or whatknot.

So yes, nVIDIA does have some amazing things they can do with a XGPU; however they are showing them off in a tech demo enviornment in which nothing else is going on.

Remember, with an Xbox game there is an actual game going on and it's not a tech demo.

However I did see nice Pixel Shading in Otogi for Xbox.

PGR2, I highly recommend it. One of the best racing games I have ever played, especially with Live online play.

Otogi looks good, but Otogi 2 looks absolutely sick. From Software are Xbox wizards.

Doesn't Brute Force have some bump mapping in the game? The game wasn't all that great but I do think the graphics were gorgeous. Art design was kind of nasty, but the polish was good.

Apex wasn't my favorite racer at the time of its release, but it has grown on me since. PGR2 is definitely a better racer.

The Xbox shaders aren't just for 'DOT3'.

Besides, Halo uses bump mapping on some of the outdoor surafaces on Silent Cartographer, areas with large draw distances.

Each of the four pipelines in the XGPU (basically an NV20 in the pixel engine and an NV25 in the vertex engine) contains two texture fetch/filter units, two register blend units capable of a 4-vector FX9 arithmetic operation, and a final combiner which implements the standard lighting equation. Which means simply put means long shaders on large numbers of objects would kill performance.

That said Wreckless, at least, was absolutely incredible. I particularly liked the hemispheric lighting on the cars; that was very impressive.

You want to see some funky PS effects in an Xbox game? Try Panzer Dragoon Orta... its basically a library of possible pixel shader effects (as seen in 3dmark's PS benchmarks) incorporated into a game experience.

But, since its such a fantasy game all the effects don't stand out as strange or unnecessary as they would in other games.

Great game overall 8)

As for wreckless... *where's that throwing up smilie when you need one?*

Okay, I'll keep pgr2. After reading abot PDO, I'm glad I got the game.

How's KOTOR? Would you get KOTOR or de:iw?
