Official announcement: Toshiba starts PS3 memory producton.

Maybe..or maybe not...it seems this year Sony is more interested in pushing PSP technology (just give a look at this year GDC schedule) than PS3 tech.

Oh, I'm sure they'll be pushing the PSP hard since it's launching first, but if they stick to their comments and get a functional PS3 running at E3 (or one of their own shows near that timeframe) there'll be plenty to go around for everybody. ;)

Well, I hope Sony will reveal some more PS3 technology info..as I expect Microsoft and Nintendo to do the same about their next generation hw.
It would be nice to know if that special preferred embodiment has been preferred for real ;)

I'm pretty sure they're all "coming out" in 2004, like high-tech debutantes. :p Certainly if we're supposed to believe ANY of them are launching in 2005, they'll need to show their confidence in 2004.

Best damn thought out post so far, although mostly common sense.

Remember this guys, PS2's specs were unveiled 18 MONTHS prior to a USA release! I have no doubt they will do the same for PS3.

whereas I don't recall Steve paying off Xerox for Mac GUI.

Then again, PARC's work relied *a lot* on the earlier academic work (on ergonomic computer interfaces) of Jef Raskin, who at that time was working at Apple, busy inventing the Mac and convincing the clueless Steve Jobs that GUI is the way to go...

(Altogether, it's quite a story. Earlier Jobs had tried to kill off the entire Macintosh project because Raskin wouldn't let him play the head honcho. Then, the PARC visit finally made Jobs accept Raskin's ideas and he got Lisa's original CLI changed to GUI. Then, as Lisa flopped as too expensive to sell, Jobs eventually smoked Raskin all the way out of Apple and was the famous Mr. Mac everafter.)

Okay, enough off-topic for now... ;-)
