Nvidia Launches First Chip for Handheld Gadgets

I really wish one of our gaming GPU companies would actually make a gaming GPU for the PDA market. Maybe BitBoys will make it all happen :)

Why on EARTH can't they think up a new name for their chips? GoForce 2150 sounds like some crap '80s toy/cheasy sci-fi cartoon/Power Rangers monster.

It's not good when a chip's name makes me laugh outloud for long periods of time.

did you also notice their new "Forceware" ? Sounds like their new marketing strategy, must've teamed up with MS for that one

My thoughts exactly.

You guys need to throw a Big Azz MBX Party at like... The Ifle Tower Or some place like that. Getting it into a Dell X5 or a Ipaq wouldn't hurt either. ;)

You need to get me to do your pr . I have a jersey / italian accent. I'm big ... I cary a bat... I will get people to include mbx in products or they will sleep with the fish :devilish:

What's really funny in the whole MediaQ acquisition is that the current MediaQ chips (found in the Ipaq series) get their butt seriously kicked by ATI Imagineon... (found in the Toshiba PDAs), not only for speed, but for functionalities.

Cough, where? :?:

Cough Series COUGH 5 cough PC COUGH where is? COUGH

Im fed up of being patient! :(

come on! Bitboys followers have waited a bit longer than PowerVR guys... :) you can't lose your patient in such a short time! ;)

hmmh... let's see... since 1996 makes like 7 years, while since Kyro II it is less than 4 :D

and as long as products are only "in the air" there's not much use for consumers... still, ATi and nVidia have chosen 2D only way while "underdogs" like Bitboys and PowerVR have chosen 2D/3D. (and both even on their own ways on that.)

Bitboys have never come out with a product though (except the developer pyramid 3D that was sold on Ebay).

Its about time PowerVR jumped into the high end. MBX is a fantastic chip too, but I cant buy anything with it in yet. They should release a handheld version of the dreamcast using the MBX and the SH5 and add DVD features and shit too. It'd be expensive but it would rule. an all in one thing, DVD's MP3's Games and its portable.

Bah, Im waffling again.

More than 2 years actually; K2 was released in Q1 2001.

As far as MBX goes, I´d say that ImgTec´s part of the work (exept support) is complete more or less. Vendors are still releasing 2D capable PDA/mobile chips. Just because a fair amount of lisences have been bought it doesn´t mean that 3D devices get released overnight.

Their own official forecasts from AGM meetings predict royalties to start floating in at about Q1 2004. More details hopefully soon :)

you call it a product?? I don't. :) dev board was sold by individual and there's dozens of working / non-working versions Pyramid 3D all around the world, which were distributed during development. (which all could be sold on eBAY still not making it to product.)

They were close, twice. (too bad that someone pulled the matt under their feet on both times.)

and what comes to this new market, as I said, PowerVR and Bitboys are only ones providing cores with 3D. Bitboys' Accelelon series are starting with G10 which is cleary better on very low end (supports MMS / SVG standards on Hardware.) and PowerVR is cleary better on High end (support for vertex processing, more programmability on pixel pipeline.) so it is nice to see two new companies on 2 first places technologically.

but again, marketing means a lot, because market is new. nVidia and ATi will sell their products only with their name. Time will show how things will go for PowerVR and Bitboys.

good luck for both of them. They will need it.

IIRC, from the presentations in San Diego, the G10 doesn't have texture mapping - you have to step up to the G30 to get that.

G20 has texture mapping, but only G30 has Z-buffer.

Thanks! Petri Nordland didn't mention the G20 so please excuse my ignorance.
