No!!! Not My Cable Access!!!!

And after a quick phone call to Comcast, the situation once again changes....

On the brightside, I get to keep the cable for another 6 months...they cut the price in half. On the brighterside2 we're also keeping & upgrading our DSL line, twice the speed for half the price.

We're also keeping our cable package for a while longer since they cut the price on that too, but we're still gonna get the dish and check it out...make the switch once we have both and decide which we like better.

So much to do about nothing, the story of me life.
Very cool. You'll definitely get to see what both worlds have to offer. I doubt you'll be able to state that it's really worth $55/month for digital cable once you see what $30/month satellite can offer.

Cable is really expensive, especially after all the promotions get done. I know in some areas you can get Digital cable and internet for a low price for a year, but after the year is over it could end up being more than $100.

I will get FIOS when it is available in my area because Verizon will definitely offer TV service through the pipe as well.

I dunno, I just found out that "On Demand" is a free service and my kids and wife are discovering it now and it is quite cool!

I thought it was like "Pay per view" movies where there was a charge for everyone, so I wouldn't let anyone use it....now that it's free my kids are like kids in a candy store.

Not only didn't I lose my cable, but I got it for a most definate 6 month "locked-in" contract too...it's ok to hate me now Silence, I would too.

Yup, too true....but as my wife discovered today if you play the two major providers of both services against each other every 6 months or so you can keep getting some major deals.

After 6 months with the cable internet we're going to cancel it since they'll be jacking the price back up, but I got a funny feeling they'll just offer us another deal that is too good to pass up.

Funny thing? I think I get more use out of my cable connection than anyone else in the neighborhood. We don't have that many users on my cable line since my speeds are always right at 6Mb, and I got that sucker running flat-out pretty much 24/7. I think last month I downloaded around 70Gb. (We have no cap/limit to useage, I am SOOOO fricking spoiled and I LUVERS it!!!! :D )

Cool beans all around, but I seriously need to get me some relaxation in as my stress levels are a bit ridiculous right now....it's been a looooong week.

I don't know, but if we do I'll probably just lock them all out right away.

I can't see cable/sattelite porn competing with what I can get off the internet; no way, no how.

My wife is in the process of cancelling my cable internet connection, as well as our digital cable. She finally got tired of paying for two internet connections and is re-working it all out with SBC and is going the DSL route.
Tactic 1: Tell her that if she cancel your line subscription she hates freedom, that she hates America.

Tactic 2: *click*

It definitely is not a myth about the more people on the node for cable the more bandwidth it takes up. However it does work in a specific way that a company like Comcast can pretty much give you the full 6 Mbps download speeds throughout the entire day. There are more than 200 modems on my node and at least 10 people are constantly downloading from Bit Torrent. I can easily get 500 KB/s download speed all the time no matter what time of day. So to me, 3 meg is slow because it would basically halve my bandwidth.

What cable companies are supposed to do is monitor the usage of a segment, and when it gets above a certain percent utilisation, either increase bandwidth with frequency multiplexing tech like QAM256, or eventually resegment in order to reorganise the traffic. Problem is that resegmenting is expensive, so an area may be allowed to suffer even though it's over it's trigger utilisation.

Following these kind problems with high bandwidth usage in the early days of cable data networks in the States, the UK suppliers have been much more careful to manage the expectations and bandwidth available as they've raised speeds in the UK markets.

Well its nice to just be able to turn it on.. no waitig for dl:LOL:

After switching from Cox digital cable/5meg internet to SBC DSL 3meg and the full DirecTV package I can say I'm disappointed. Cable was so much better.

We got the exact same channel lineup(with a few exceptions I don't care about), except with digital audio output on the boxes(the basic DirecTV boxes are analog audio only), and lower picture quality. Sure, it's a 100% digital picture, but so is a 160x120 asf video file. I can see compression artifacts all the time, and no, it's not a signal quality problem.

SBC's newsgroups support is pathetic compared to Cox, although that's not critical.

Cox's usenet is pretty pathetic it's self.
It's pretty useless most of the time...
3 days is what they claim for binaries but in reality it's a hit or mis for stuff even the same day.

Completely agree with that. About a month ago they used to run 3 seperate servers, east/central/west, with about 6 days of retention in binaries. But one could have 4 connections to each server for 12 total to max out their 4mbit/s connection. Now it seems they shut off the old east/central servers and consolidated them into a single server. Now they barely have 3 day retention. If both servers have the items in question, I'm maxing out at 2.8mbit/s, but more times than not it's only 1.4mbit/sec. O'ell, it was nice while it lasted.

It's rather pathetic. I'm about to sign up for a paid usenet server.

So that's why newsleecher cant connect to the east server I have.. was wondering about that.
I still get about 3.7mb/s though from them:D

Yeah. The east and central now resolve to the same ip, an entirely new usenet server. I get 3.7mb/s when pulling headers, but when I'm fetching articles bodies it's quite a bit less. Each connection seems to max out ~ 350Kb/s, so with all 8 max is 2.8mb/s.

O'ell, at least on the speed-tests on usenetserver I'm maxing out my connection (4mb/s) and they have 57 days of retention.

A 6Mb connection, 480Gb of drive space, and almost a decade of experience finding porn on the internet...I don't wait, I choose from the library. ;)

I kinda assumed that since it still worked yet said I was using too many connections..
Well atleast's it close to the regular 4mb cap.. premium service= 5mb.. which I dont have

No way! I love the way my wife is just as she is. We have a great sexual relationship, it's just a SERIOUS lack of opportunity that is the big problem.

Kids are great, but at 5 & 8 they're a handful and a half....three puppies that go absolutely nuts if I lock them out of the bedroom doesn't help much either. (They love the entire family, but they're sort of totally nuts about me.)

I actually don't usually like movies, way too fake. The last few years I've found myself gravitating much more towards amateur stuff, much more sincere.

When I got nothing else going torrent-wise I find some good batches of amateur stuff and just stock up for rainy days. ;)

Me and my wife are both seriously trying to figure out a way to take a weekend away, I'm seriously thinking of imposing like hell out of my little sister since that's the only way I think we could pull it off. She's about 5 years younger than me, lives about 6 miles away, single, LOVES dogs & kids, and she moved in with my older sister when she had her first child so my older sis could keep working and basically raised their daughter for the first 3-4 years of her life. Only problem is she recently went back to school for nursing so is rather busy and kept her job as a head cook in a bakery by working weekends.

Oh, and she has a bachelors in psychology with a minor in child development or something like that.....pretty much a perfect candidate. Only problem is finding a weekend she has time and a way to talk her into doing it....

(Sorry for the TMI, but it's been on my mind a LOT lately.)

Yeah, man, you gotta take some time away. Your sister probably won't mind helping you two to get out of the house for a weekend. Going out for a day and night at least once a month would be a really good idea.

I was of course joking about the surgery.. I'm sure if she was ugly you wouldn't have married her and had kids;)
Too fake?
Get some facial abuse:LOL:
Well that is if you like degrading stuff.. and quite rough er.. bjs..
