Kameo Soundtrack (12 tracks):
http://www.kameosoundtrack.com/

Nice to hear some quality music for games. Kameo really is my style. Symphonic with a bunch of neat vocals with a tendancy toward moody/battle themes punctuated with precussion and brass. The first 4 tracks made me want to buy a Kameo CD. I am picky about music, but this is right up my alley musically :D The one Lost Odyssey sample is pretty nice too.

Ps- haha You can buy the soundtrack come November 8th at Amazon, Tower Records, Walmart, Best Buy, Musicland/Sam Goody, and Border's.

Kameo keeps surprising me. First it was E3, where its visuals didn't suck. Then it was TGS where the visuals were easily 2x better. Now Rare has (thank GOD) forsaken their MIDIfied past long enough to do this. I'm just finishing listening to all the tracks, and it's really nice. I might have to get this soundtrack individually.

The Kameo music is just amazing, epic is to small of a word to describe it. The lost odyssey was not bad either, became a bit to electronic in the end though...

I am composer of music and can tell you from available sound clips that Kameo composer is very skilled, even occasional hints of fugal contruct as well as efficient and clever reuse of common theme . Many skilled composers in game world, many as good or better than film world. A less known GameCube game called Crystal Chronicles had very talented composer as well. She has not so flashy composing style but very artistic.

cool :)

Wow... a positive thread!

I love a good surround-sound gaming experience. It's a pity that none of the machines have done a whole heap to "improve" sound in games, but that's not strictly a console issue, is it?

Kameo sounds very nice. Hopefully the game adds up to a great experience all-round.

For some reason I love that Blue Dragon track. :D
That is why music is nice.

I thought Kameo >>>>> Lost Odyssey > Blue Dragon.

I thought they were all good, but it was my least favorite.

But that is why music is great: Different styles make different people happy!

Now I need to go preorder the Kameo soundtrack (last music ordered: Carl Orff last summer... yeah, I don't listen to hardly any music)

At the risk of being a damp squib, what's 'next-gen' about next-gen audio and music? They're using the same principles of current gen, playing CD audio tracks or MP3s. Jeremy Soule among others has been providing fantastic music for games for years. Unless next gen adds 7.1 3D audio or something similar that only 2% of gamers will use, I'm not sure next-gen audio is really a valid thread subject. Maybe 'in game musics' is more apt?

Unless you've got developer quotes of algorithmic music, sound morphing and wave-synthesis

TITLE: Next Gen game music and audio.

Not: Next Gen music and audio technology.

I believe you are nitpicking based on your missunderstand of the title. It is not about next gen techniques. THAT would be in the => Console Talk forum.

This is about game music and audio on next gen games => Console Games.

So much focus has been on new screen shots, game details, frame rates, play mechanics, etc... I am kind of bored of looking at screenshots and movies. RARELY do we get to sample the sounds and music--and a LOT of new high budget games have some really good stuff.

I had no clue Kameo had such a great sound track. So this thread is a place to deposit media.

Not that I would care if people discuss the technology, but first and foremost, as the title and first posts show, this is for media. And thus is in the Console Game forum.

That's because the visual side is improving next gen. I don't know that next-gen music is improving anything over this gen, so why talk about next-gen music exclusively? Why not talk about all music for games including upcoming current-generation titles?

I already answered that question.

  • Due to the limited media we have not heard much of the new games
  • I started a thread where I wanted to focus on next-gen title's music and audio if we can find such media
  • Due to the emphasis on screenshots and trailers we have not really had any threads collecting music samples for people to get a taste of the new high budget game music
  • It is on next gen games because it is my thread and my interest to hear music and audio from next gen games because I have not heard much of these titles
  • Etc.
I don't know that next-gen music is improving anything over this gen
That would be your opinion. Bigger budgets, 5.1 manditory, etc... should make some impact.

But that is besides the point. I fairly labeled the thread about "games" not technology. You are free to talk about technology, but due to the dearth of media on this subject to sample I thought starting my own thread where posters could put media from the new games being released soon on the next gen consoles would be of some interest.

We have had topics on next gen pictures (and not even about the technology, just about the games because it is exciting to see the new titles coming because it is a new platform) and topics on gameplay, stories, etc... a topic to deposit media and information on an often neglected topic is well founded IMO. I PERSONALLY have heard very little media from these new games--and I quite enjoyed hearing the new stuff from Mistwalker AND Kameo. I am glad I started the thread because I would have NEVER heard the Kameo music otherwise.

Why? Because I did not know it existed.

I don't have a clue why you are argueing with me when you misread the topic. You seem to be stuck on the "This is a worthless topic because you are not discussing what I want to talk about, namely the improvement in stuff like visuals".

This is not that kind of thread. You are welcome to discuss next gen music and audio technology, but this thread is not mislabled and argueing with me why my thread is wrong is kind of silly.

Especially when I explained myself once already.

Not at all. Maybe I'm just being annoyingly pedantic but if you want to share musics because you want to hear what games are going to sound like (which is fine by me), what not share all upcoming musics? Anyhow I'm being a nuisance and apologise.

Actually i'm pretty sure that gamers with 5.1 surround sound are much more than just 2%. DVD made it possible for surround sound systems to sell quite well in the past few years.

Now, if we want to talk about percentages of people who will really enjoy next gen, what's the percentage of people who will actually be able to play at 720p? ;)

Sound can impress people just as much as visual contact, and a nice surround sound systems is many times cheaper than a HDTV.

I am pretty sick today (took a day off) and am pissed at the forum "atmosphere" lately. Nothing personal at you man, you know that.

Just thought music/audio from the Xbox 360/PS3 had been under discussed and had no dipository for samples. The Mistwalker guy is considered by some to be a music geniuss (never really heard this stuff) so I thought having a nice thread to have stuff would be nice.

The fruit is I got to hear Kameo which is an awesome soundtrack for my tastes.

Should have given you the green light... btw, go ahead and discuss tech here. Personally I think bigger budgets will = better professional soundtracks AND better samples.

And better technology means better sample quality (e.g. PGR3) and better audio standard (5.1 being standard is nice). The sublte stuff sometimes makes a big difference.

But I am not an audiophile, so what do I know ;)

The sound quality is not great, but I LOVE my 5.1 headphones.

My home office is not conducive to a full 5.1 speaker setup--getting spacing right is a PAIN--so these have been great. MUCH better than 2 speakers.

Sadly I have found the SB Audigy 2ZS to be, well, unimpressive. I really miss my A3D... too bad they went under.
