I love them, have been waiting for another Mario Kart game since the SNES days (I still have the cartridge).

Any idea on the time frame ?

I foresee a lot of people being upset at it, but I agree with you ,it looks like... Mario Kart... heh...
yea, N64 used 2d sprites of rendered 3d models, so it does look similar...

there are now 16 racers to choose from, the game will have LAN support(with the broadband adapter). so I can assume its 16 players via lan..
you will notice there are now two people per cart, the mixture of who those two are will affect the items you pick up, each have unique abilities and such(you may notice one of the picks it appears Mario is trying to smack the driver next to him)

I agree, it doesn't look too impressive, but what's even more important with this game is the gameplay aspect. 16 player lan sounds like a blast. I wonder if they are any innovative features to look forward to?

i know i will be punished for saying this, but it looks like a Dreamcast game.....

yea, you say that as if its a bad thing?
I really didnt expect Mario Kart to look any different than this, its not
like its a concept that will work with realistic graphics

well i'm sorry for expecting a bit more than 4 year old graphics from my one year old console......

nice graphics do not necessarely mean *realistic* graphics...

It is ok for me already, I love kart games with cute characters (I loved South Park Kart on PC and Bomberman Kart on PS2, but I like Mario Kart the most).

It looks nice . But who knows how old these screens are. This could still be an early look at the game. Lets wait for more solid info. Besides the mario kart games never pushed the graphics boundrys and they never needed to. They are fun games with alot of replay. At the end of the day thats what matters. I think we can all agree on that. If its playable at e3 my friend will let me know how it is .

I dont think they are super old, the game looks like the cover art of Mario Kart, that is just what the art direction looks like..

i'm talking about the very low poly look of the characters.... jeeez look at the 4th picture....
and tehy could do so much better with those textures...

Doesn’t look like Nintendo is really trying to push the boundary for texture detail, or they are just not very keen on the somewhat gritty look of detail-textures.
This better run at 60fps or else it going to be totally pathetic to look at.
I really don’t know if I’m exited about this one. Not making it online capable is probably the single most stupid mistake Nintendo ever made.
People will expect online from this game and when they find out its not, they are going to be turned completely off.
Another thing how can they still call it Mario Kart, it’s more like Mario Hot Rod or Mario Motorised Pram :).

It sure doesn't look great (though I think high framerates are more important in a game like this. I hope it's 60fps, 30fps would be extremely disappointing) but I'm glad Nintendo decided to try something new here (gameplay-wise) instead of just pulling another MK64 (which was far from great imho). The two guys on one kart-thing sure sounds interesting (I love co-op multiplayer-modes) and it's great to see that Koopa Troopa is back in the game :)

Ugh, looks almost like the N64 game.

Someone (Preferably someone from the team that did Zelda) needs to go and slap the guys making the Mario Kart graphics engine and tell them that "cartoon graphics" is not the same thing as "super low poly / low detail graphics".

At least it should run at 60 fps. I can't imagine that the GC would be incapable of putting out 60 fps on a game with 1/4 the texture detail of other GC games.

But ugh... My eyes are bleeding...

Correction: Stupid people will expect online from this game

dont be so fast, Nintendo isnt taking it online, but there is Gamespy Tunnel coming for GC, being it has LAN play, people are certain to use it.

To the people who are complaining about the lowish polycounts and not so unbelievable texture detail:

Look at the background of the fourth shot and tell me what you see.

Also with 16 (not 8!) selectable Karts that means a LOT on screen at once. This game doesn't look like it uses an LOD system quite as ridiculous as F-Zero X's... so that's going to put a lot more stress on the system than you might expect.
