Kyro II Ultra

I would like to by a new card.

I know, that Kyro II Ultra has a T'n'L chip. Anybody knows, how many points does it get in the 3DMark 2001 SE, and how much does it cost?

No idea what it gets in 3dmark2001, but that's pretty much unimportant really.

EnT&L gives a speed boost of between 10% to 40% depending on the game and without EnT&L its already about 15% faster then Kyro II.

Is it better than GeForce4 MX (i know it is another cathegory, because the geforce cards use their "brute force", and render everything)?

What kind of setup do you have...I mean CPU,memory...?
I personally would prob. not recommend the Kyro2 SE today...the Radeon 9000 would be around the same price and have better performance...the Radeon 8500 or 8500LE would also seem better to me...(and you can find those cheap too...depends on where you live how cheap...here in Sweden I've seen the LE for around 1400,that's roughly 140$...and I don't really expect to find the Kyro2se cheaper...)
I'm not saying the Kyro2SE is a bad card...but it's just like I personally wouldn't recommend anyone buying a new GF2 today...they're becoming a tad old,not bad,just old. :)

Edit,I came to think of another question:
What do you want from the card, allround performance for DVD and so on....or more or less for pure gaming...?

Yea you would be better off with a budget DX8 card... only one that fits the bill is the Radeon 8500 (LE or not LE) ... or... right now, maybe the GF4 Ti4200 but that is getting on the pricey mid range price/market.

I have an AMD ThunderBird 1100, 128Mb RAM and a TNT2 Ultra. (Maybe i will upgrade the CPU and the RAM too)

And i use my computer for software development, and sometimes for gaming.

If you like TBR-Chips it could be good to wait for Tridents XP4 (up to 300/350MHz 256MB DDR, TBR and full DX8.1 in Hardware for ca. 100$ :) )!
The KyroIISE isn't a bad card (i have myself a KyroII), but it's not fast enough for future games :( (G4MX, too)! So a fast DX8.1 card should it really be today (BTW: i don't understand why STMicro releases der KyroII SE-chip but no Kyro3 o_O )! All IMHO :)!

wow! this Trident card seems good. I'll wait for this and for the Sis Xabre cards.

Thank you!

Remember to read reviews before getting one of those though, especially the Trident since you will be able to see if it seems to have driver problems...

Why am I not surprised that Teasy wrote that.. ;)

lgdt,
Run 3DMark2000 or 3DMark2001, submit your project (& register) and you will be able to do some searches on how well certain combinations of CPU's and GPU's perform. For example if you want to know how well a KYRO II performs with different CPU's and different CPU MHz's, you can just type in the MHz, select CPU type and GPU, and click "search". Then you can compare and see how well it performs with different CPU & MHz.

Normally your advice would be useful but we are talking about the Kyro II SE and the Orb does not let you search for Kyro II SE scores. Any chance of adding in Kyro II SE scores to the data base search options? I have lots of scores to upload.

As for Enhanced T&L on the Kyro II SE it’s a mixed bag. If you have a AMD cpu then Enhanced T&L seems to make the Kyro II SE slower then a Kyro. But if you have a Intel CPU then Enhanced T&L can give up to a 40% boost in speed as seen in 3Dmarks Dragon test although the average speed increase from EnT&L is more like 10 to 15%.

Why am I even less suprised that worm[MadOnion.com] wrote that ;)

Surely this will be sorted out in final drivers once SSE/3dNow support is added though.

If the SE has a separate ID than the non-SE, it should be possible. I can ask about it, but can't promise anything before I know if SE really has an unique ID. There are a number of GPU's that use the same ID's which makes it difficult to separate them. I know it sucks, but there's not much we can do about it. I'll let you know when I hear something!

Fair enough about the ID’s. I am hopeful both cards have a different ID as if I am not mistaken the Kyro drivers’ only turn on Enhanced T&L when the Kyro II SE, ID is found.

On a different note anyone got any ideas on getting Enhanced T&L working with Kyro 4000 and 4500 cards

Ok, I just dug up some info, and it is possible to identify the SE. It's a pity though that PowerVR doesn't actually have an own id for the SE. They only "revision id", which makes it a tad more complicated from our side to identify them. Also, the card is named "KYRO II/SE" (in the driver inf file) which makes me wonder if the revision id is for both the SE and some new revision on the "vanilla" KYRO II. But we will have the KYRO II SE listed in a few moments anyway..

We will also have the ATI Radeon 9000 and Radeon 9000 PRO listed now, and made some other small updates to the lists too.
