I wonder if we are ever going to see a day when 3D graphics will look as good and as convincing as a painting
We got some pretty nice approximations of course. But still

now that you mention it, the transition to 3D graphics was pretty rough. I LOVED Broken Sword 1 and 2 with their perfect 2D graphics. Then I got Broken Sword 3 for the original Xbox and everything was in 3D and it was kind of a bummer. It is a good game, but the colourfulness was lost and the detail..
Same with Age of Empires 1 and 2. They made me feel in an ancient era, made me imagine how life would be back then, the whales in the sea, the clean open world and sheer nature of the time, etc etc.
But when Age of Mythology came out full in 3D, I could run it of course, although it wasn't the same. It looked good, the 3D graphics improved certain things, the zoom was fine, but something was lost.

A 2D game I enjoyed immensely and couldn't stop playing until completing it, is The Dark Eye Chains of Satinav. Liked the art design, story, setting, places..
