Japan Doesn't like FPS?

I think it's sheer coincidence. I don't see them playing games featuring sweaty marines either. It has been like a plague until not much time ago.

Japan has its fair share of military / gun otakus. If there was a game there otakus would get, it would be Modern Warfare.

No no no japan doesnt like western games

or western consoles ...

But still we saw decent and improving numbers for COD and Skyrim just got a prefect score in Famitsu so that should translate into decent numbers ...

I always wonder if the majority of western game sales in Japan are just to foreigners stationed there...

I mean, do large amounts of actual Japanese people buy, Uncharted 3, or Xbox 360? Hard to believe.

well considering there are <100,000 americans living in japan for the xbox360 to sell 1.5million means everyone of them must of brought 15 each

Foreign Army personnel aren't included in Japan demographics (something like 40,000 americans), but I bet they shop there. And these are people who rotate, mostly i doubt it's the same 40,000 people now as in 2005.

How much of a contribution that is, I have no idea, but typically military personnel are often gamers.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain that purchases at the Base or Navy Exchanges don't count toward Japanese sales as they are brought in via a separate distribution system. The systems sold are all Region 1/NTSC instead of NTSC-J.

It's been a while, but I was stationed there for a little over 2 years.

In general, but some do buy NTSC-J to dabble in the Japanese game market. Western games of course wouldn't be reflected in those purchases, however, as they'd buy the standard US version for those games.

Unmarried enlisted people living in barracks usually have quite a bit of disposable income and a lot of free time when overseas. My cousin that was in Iraq came back with 1 of each console, 1 of each portable, and all sorts of electronic entertainment devices. As well as buying stuff online while there. After her tour she came home to boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff that she'd ordered. :p

SB
