Is it just me or is Wii hype dying off?

Yeah I got that wrong. However you agree sony pulled some pr claims that were just stupid but the average joe believed it. It really helped when killing the dreamcast wich had IMO better hardware than ps2.
Well I'd say they all pull exaggerated PR claims, but yeah no less the hype of the PS2 had an effect on the DC's early departure. But I don't think I'd go as far as saying the DC had better hardware. There are many ps2 games leaps and bounds over from what I've seen of DC games. Don't get me wrong though, I loved the DC. Had one myself, and wished it stuck around longer. :)

when the ps2 arrived and you compared the current state of DC games with the mediocore ps2 games, you are right... lots of DC games looked much better, but that changed quickly after better ps2 came out.

Nothing new here. Nintendo is known for being secretive untill lauch day. We have also seen them deliver more than they promise. The gamecube for example was a excelent piece of hardware and it was better than the ps2, however nintendo did not say stuff like toy story graphics like sony did.

I spect sony to BS with PR this comming months. If history repeats itself then nintendo will sell less than sony yet again for the 3rd consecutive time. Lets wait and see.

However I see no indication at all that nintendo wont deliver again excelent and cost effective hardware like they did with all their platforms since the nes to the GC. I spect the hardware to be better than spected.

Actually Ken Kutaragi the person who stated that as well as the "jucking into the matrix" comment wasnt refering specifically to the PS2 ;)

It was a misinterpretation gone all wrong.

Kutaragi was refering to the PS2 in a broader sense, on how he envisioned the future.

When Sony presented GScube at SIGGRAPHH it was a cube of many PS2's linked together.

They demonstrated the Matrix in real time, as well as Final Fantasy Spirits within and Antz. Thats when he mentioned the matrix thing

This is the first time probably where he spoke about a home server, or network something he is trying to achieve with the PS3 now.

I like refering to the GScube as the PS3 prototype

He was expecting to build on this but it was proven impossible due to some difficulties back then

Unfortunately the media was going crazy about anything PS2 related at that time and they sometimes exagerated often misinterpreting some information.

The media hyped up the PS2 more than Sony themselves

We've been starving for PS3 information (new information anyway), and it's kinda starting to trickle out. Also, everyone's waiting for that game(s) to justify the premium price over the competition. (I don't think they're going to get it just yet, but that's just me NOT setting myself up for disappointment) I suspect TGS will be the grand unveiling and the hype will be overwhelming right through launch.

I think there's been far more Xbox 360/Microsoft news as of late than Sony AND Nintendo. Dead Rising turned out to be quite a gem, and thus people are looking forward to Capcom's other title, Lost Planet (after having played a great demo). Saint's Row turned out to be better than many [everyone?] suspected. XNA Beta just released so there's a certain excitement surrounding that, mostly of the potential. Microsoft released figures of 50 million downloads through Xbox Live. There are autobuffs waiting to see how Forza 2 comes out (just a few days now). Gears of War is one of the most anticipated titles this fall, more screenies showing up frequently. There's talk of Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey finally being in playable form at TGS. The HD-DVD add-on is on it's way in a couple of months, after HD-DVD receiving so much praise...maybe it's just that I'm paying far more attention to Microsoft as of late. They certainly have quite a bit going on.

I have come to notice something lately..perusing beyond3d and others..the PS3 hype seems to be growing organically, while the Wii hype lessens. Check how many threads are about PS3 vs Wii here on the front page.

Just an observation I had to get out. Do you agree? What does it mean? Etc. Is it because there has been little Wii info lately? Does it have no relevance to the public's buying tendencies (aka they buy Wii in droves anyway)?

Or is the Wii's lack of graphics lessening it's impact even now?

Ehh, hope this isn't deemed too inflammatory, but oh well.

Its just you. But saying that I've had some random friends talk to me about how they are going to buy the new Nintendo system when it comes out. I was like "Oh yeah did I tell you about that!". At which point I would be shut down.

I have to agree with you. Even without any marketing at the moment I hear my friends talking about buying the thing. Even my uncle who is like 55. I don't think I'll buy it though since I won't have much free time.

Ps3 hype growing organically?! WTF?! There's nothing organic about scheduling interviews with websites and talking up your product. Its PR. They have a $600 console to sell, and regardless of what a ps3 ****** might think, that's not going to be an easy task once you get by the initial slew of early adopters and ebayers.
